Billy Jack
Hewitt
Sep 5, 1984 — Aug 10, 2023
Billy Jack Hewitt was born in Murray, Utah to William and Becky Hewitt. Billy and his sister Brittany were raised by their grandparents Jack and Elaine Hewitt. Billy was especially close to his grandmother, who was a master thespian and encouraged Billy to explore acting, dance and music. Billy started writing poetry at age 14 following the death of his best friend and murder of his brother. Billy was cast as a teen friend in the series Everwood. Billy really enjoyed acting in a TV series. It has been said that Billy would not have graduated from high school without his teacher accepting poetry for all his assignments. Billy would write his poetry in 5 Star' notebooks. Later he would be known as the rapper '5 Star'. Billy and his family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2002. Billy became involved in the local music scene. He wrote music and performed for public and corporate events. He and Nyla-J (Justine Hill, mother of Billy's son) opened for Warren G and Bone Thugs and Harmony at the Brooklyn Bowl. When Billy's grandmother was in hospice in 2011, Billy spent many hours visiting her and recording their conversations. After Elaine passed away, Billy wrote a song for her and used their recorded conversations as part of the song, which Billy performed at her celebration of life. Billy was always a happy, very positive person, which comes across in his music. When asked, who is your musical inspiration? Billy would reply, 'Tupac Shakur for his songs about overcoming adversity and hoping for the better things in life.' Billy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack and Elaine Hewitt and brother, Timothy McMullin. Billy is survived by his father William Hewitt of Las Vegas, son Orion Derek Jack Hewitt of Las Vegas, sister Brittany Hewitt and special twin nieces Kaydence and Brooklyn Hewitt of Las Vegas, brother Juston Brown of Friday Harbor, Washington, and sister Tiffany Brown of Elephant Butte, New Mexico, and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins along with his friends and music family. Billy will be missed by all.
