Calvin L. Jones, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the age of 84.
Calvin was born on September 5, 1941, in Carthage, South Dakota, the youngest of six children to Clara and Lloyd Jones. Growing up in Carthage, he carried with him the values of hard work, family, and perseverance that would guide him throughout his life.
He graduated from Carthage High School on May 17, 1960, where he met the love of his life, Veronica Kieffer. The two were inseparable and built a remarkable life together, celebrating 65 years of marriage in November. They were married on November 26, 1960, in Norwalk, California.
Over the years, Calvin and Veronica moved between South Dakota and California, raising four wonderful children: Nicholas, Jeffrey, Christina, and Galen Jones. Together, they also built a family business, Jones' Corner, in South Dakota before eventually settling in Dublin, California, in 1974.
In Dublin, California Calvin worked as an aircraft mechanic, plumber/ pipe fitter and later as a planner estimator at the Oakland Army Base. He was known for his dedication, problem-solving skills, and strong work ethic. Beyond his career, he was most proud of his role as a husband, father, and grandfather, always putting family first.
In his later years Calvin and Veronica retired to Iroquois, South Dakota in 2001. They lived there until 2022 when they relocated to Pahrump, Nevada to be closer to the family.
Calvin loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating. These hobbies brought him peace and joy, and he created countless memories with family and friends on lakeshores, rivers, and campgrounds.
Calvin's legacy will live on through the love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the laughter he brought to those around him. He will be deeply missed by Veronica, his four children: Nick (Teresa), Jeff (Tess). Christine (Stan) and Galen (Wendy), and his 12 grandchildren, and his 5 great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his in-laws John Kieffer(Sally), Mary Major, Virginia Nagelhout, Betty Ferguson, and extended family. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Lloyd and Clara Jones, his in-laws John and Josephine Kieffer and his siblings Mildred (Roy) Gump, Eldora (Don) Tompkins, Alice (Ted) Stevens, Russell (Pat) and Ralph Jones. Also, by Nick Kieffer, Dolores Kieffer, Dean Ferguson, Dick Major, and Ralph Nagelhout.
A celebration of Calvin's life will be held at a later date, where his loved ones will gather to honor and remember the remarkable man he was.
