Carl Calvin
Emerson
Jul 4, 1953 — Jul 8, 2025
Carl Calvin Emerson, 72, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Born on July 4, 1953, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Carl was the beloved son of Almeda Wilson and Ralph Emerson, Sr.
A graduate of Mayfield High School in Las Cruces, Carl went on to attend Eastern New Mexico University in 1971 on a football scholarship. His path led him to serve honorably in the United States Navy aboard the USS Snook (SSN 592) submarine until 1980. During his service, Carl trained as a Nuclear Power student in 1973 and earned recognition as an ELT and EWS for sea trials. He was awarded Sailor of the Month during the overhaul of the USS Snook and received the Vallejo, CA Chamber of Commerce Citizenship Award for his service as an outstanding instructor.
Following his military service, Carl continued his education at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. He later built a successful civilian career with Ameren Electric in Missouri, where he worked as a Nuclear Rad/Chem Supervisor until his retirement. In his later years, he played a key role in the decommissioning of a nuclear plant in San Clemente, California.
Carl had a deep love for music—especially the works of Bob Dylan—cheered passionately for the Raiders, enjoyed trips to the casino, and treasured time spent with his family. He was a proud member of the American Legion and was always generous in his support of charitable causes.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Jacque (Kresge) Emerson; sons Eric (Tara) and Dane; grandchildren Kyle (Shelby), Ellie, Jacob, and Brenlie; and great-grandchildren Kannon and Josephine. He also leaves behind his Aunt Joan, cousins Dennis (Suzie), Larry (Maria), and many other cherished family members and friends across the East Coast.
Carl was preceded in death by his sister Ruby, his mother Almeda, brother Ralph Jr., granddaughter Ashlie, and father Ralph Sr.
A private celebration of Carl's life will be held by his family. In keeping with his wishes, Carl was cremated. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at UHS-Desert View Hospital in Pahrump, Summerlin Hospital ICU, and Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas for their compassionate care.
