Carlos "Carl" Truman Nixon, 78, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away Monday, July 24, 2023. He was a resident of Las Vegas since 1966. Carl was born in Baxter, Tennessee, on May 4, 1945 to parents Sarah Rebecca Maynard and John Henry Nixon. Growing up, Carl had 5 siblings, Lois Vernell "Nell" Kelley, Dorothy Jean Garrison, Martha Christine Garrison, Charles Ralph Nixon, Ardell Wilford Nixon In 1969, in Las Vegas, Carl married the love of his life, Susan Provine. Carl worked for over 40 years at the Riviera Hotel and Casino, from 1972 until it closed in 2015. Carl was an avid bowler and golfer. He was an active member of the Southern Nevada bowling community for over 50 years. Many life-long friends and relationships were made through a shared love of bowling. Carl made frequent visits to his home state of Tennessee every year where he enjoyed the company of his family and friends. Anyone who knew Carl knew he had an adoration for food and took great pleasure in spending time with friends and loved ones while sharing a good meal. He was loved and admired by his family and friends. Carl is preceded in death by his daughters Romey Adele (1973) and Romey Sara (1975), father John Henry (1981), mother Sarah (1998), sisters Dorothy (1988) and Nell (2005), brothers Charles Ralph (1944) and Ardell (1952), and nephew Donnie Kelley (2019). Carl is survived by his wife, Susan Nixon (Las Vegas, NV), son Robert Nixon and daughter-in-law Stacey (Tucson, AZ), daughter Amanda Nixon (Las Vegas, NV), grandson Elijah Nixon (Tucson, AZ), sister Christine Garrison and brother-in-law Fred Garrison (Indianapolis, IN), nieces and nephews J.C. and Dianne Kelley (Baxter, TN), Rick Maxwell and Connie Dew (Crossville, TN), Pam Holloway (Cookeville, TN), Francis and Larry Nixon (Cookeville, TN), Darrel Kelley (Baxter, TN), Misty Carr (Baxter, TN), Steve Brock (Baxter, TN), Terra Ballinger (Sparta, TN), Brandi Zeck (Chapin, SC), Danielle Lane (Rickman, TN), Crystal Kelley (Cookeville, TN), Benjamin Pate (Las Vegas, NV), Jacob Pate (Las Vegas, NV), Bradley Pate (Las Vegas, NV), and Alex Pate (Las Vegas, NV). A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023, at 4:00 pm at Valley Vegas Church, 4500 W Sahara Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89102.
