Obituary

Christopher Tamura, born December 4, 1978, passed away too soon on June 9th, 2025, at only 46 years old. Nevertheless, Chris profoundly touched so many lives within the short time we had him. Chris was a beloved son, friend, and mentor as well as family member. As a child, Chris and his mother, Jamie, and his dad, Brian, were an unbreakable unit, seeking fun and adventure from the nature in national parks to the wilds of Disneyland. They all found fun in music, cartoons, and food, especially since Brian was a chef. Chris and Brian used to listen to and play music all the time, which was probably the foundation of his later passion for karaoke. Chris was the light of his mother's life. He helped Jamie find a way to feel loved and safe that no one else ever could, right up until she, too, departed too soon last May, months after Brian passed away the previous December. His broader family appreciated his unique sense of humor and how he would bring such energy and laughter to family gatherings. Chris also liked to ensure we followed the rules, occasionally pointing out breaches to older family members. Those might be the early signs of someone who could have fun while still making sure things functioned like they were supposed to. After growing up in California, his true home was the Las Vegas valley. He worked for a long time in the hospitality industry at many of the major hotels including the Venetian, Cosmopolitan, Palms, Trump, and MGM properties (to name a few). His managers talked about his passion for learning and the way he helped make his teams better. The people who worked for him, and inevitably became his friends, credit him with helping them find their best selves while having fun at work every day. He loved mentoring and helping people reach their full potential. Chris even helped his cousin who he randomly ended up teaching in an advanced class - once again showing a selflessness that seemed so him. It turns out one of the lessons many learned was to try sushi. In fact, several of his friends and colleagues said that Chris introduced them to sushi for the very first time. Think they are limited examples? Think again. Las Vegas's Sushi Twister has a roll named after him - Chris - whose blend of shrimp, tempura (tamura?), cucumber, and eel were designed by Chris himself. It is hard to overestimate the impact music had throughout his life. His karaoke nights were infamous, and often a part of his travels throughout the US. In one of Chris's most memorable fusions of music and humor, he auditioned for American Idol with a nod to Elvis. Although he did not make it past the audition, he left a mark on the judges. Sports was also a meaningful pastime. Chris enjoyed watching, studying, and even meeting many of his sports heroes, especially in wrestling. Although not a direct participant, he was a lively spectator. Chris obtained his undergraduate degree from UNLV and obtained his Master's degree at Texas A&M. His commitment to helping others was evident in his work at Wecom Fiber, where he served as Vice President of Human Resources, and in his role as the "HR guru" on the local news. Chris found happiness in spending time and caring for those he loved. Everyone who knew Chris felt his vibrant, bigger-than-life personality. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, kindness, and the light he brought. May his memory be a blessing to us all and may he, in some way, experience the overwhelming love that is felt for him. Christopher is survived not only by his aunts, uncle, cousins, and extended family, but by the family he chose throughout his life. Karla Goplin and Rudy Lopez and his east side family were a huge part of his life since high school. Michael Reynolds recently helped gather many of us together knowing he has lost a mentor, friend, and travel partner. Tyra Bell also helped so many of us share our favorite stories in person. Acknowledging that there are just too many people who loved Chris and will be grieving for him for us to list here, we thank everyone who has shared a kind thought and funny story and encourage you to keep doing that so Chris's light stays bright within us.
