David Robert Gentry Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away August 28, 2024, at the age of 75. David was born in Somerset, Kentucky on August 16, 1949; he was the oldest of 7 children born to David Robert Gentry Sr. and Marjorie Price Gentry.
David married the love of his life, Minnie Jalana Shotton, on September 11, 1968, in the Los Angeles LDS Temple for all time and eternity. David completed 3 years of college at Eastern Kentucky University before he was drafted into the US Army in January 1971. He served his country in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in April 1972. David was an executive in the trucking industry for more than 40 years and then retired from UPS at the age of 62. He loved trivia, golfing, reading, traveling with his wife, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. David served in various callings as a member of the LDS church, including a one-year mission in Louisville, Kentucky with his wife from 2021-2022.
David is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Minnie Gentry; his children: Richard Gentry, Kenneth (Kristen) Gentry, Stacy Gentry, and Julie (Chy) Gentry; his ten grandchildren: Emily, Kelsea, Amber, Lindsay, Jayne, Jared, Aden, Maddox, Faith and Regan; his six great-grandchildren; and his siblings: Dale Gentry, Dennis Gentry, Dean Gentry, Doug Gentry, and Renee Mayer. David is predeceased by his sister, Janice Kay Gentry, and his parents, David Gentry Sr. and Marjorie Gentry.
David will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Services to celebrate his life will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the LDS church building, 8755 Iron Mountain Rd. Las Vegas, Nevada 89143.
