Dolores Ruiz McNerney, lovingly known as Mommom, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on February 18, 1941, in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico. She graduated from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico with a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree and went on to build an extraordinary and distinguished legal career. She served as a Superior Court Judge in Puerto Rico and later as a Federal Administrative Law Judge with the Social Security Administration in the United States. Through her dedication, intelligence, and unwavering commitment to justice, she earned the respect and admiration of the many people whose lives she touched throughout her career.
Yet, for all of her remarkable professional accomplishments, Dolores would have considered her greatest achievement to be the family she built. Above all else, she was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy and deepest pride came from watching her children, and especially her grandchildren, grow, thrive, and carry forward the values she held dear.
She is survived by her beloved children: daughter Ivette Fiorino; daughter Yvonne Burke; son Nelson Zambrana and his wife, Yvonne Ocasio; and daughter Maribel and her husband, Chris Ciampitti.
She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Cassy, Nelson Jr., Joe, Justin, Ally, Ryan C., Nick, Leia, and Ryan B.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Viator Catholic Church in Las Vegas, Nevada, followed by lunch at Firefly Tapas Kitchen + Bar, located at 335 Hughes Center Drive. Family and friends are warmly invited to come together to celebrate Dolores's life and honor her memory.
Additionally, the family invites loved ones to join them for a funeral Mass and interment at the Santa María Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, in March. Please reach out to the family for additional details.
