It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Edward Thomas Farmer, who left this world on November 20, 2024, at the age of 77, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Edward was born on January 29, 1947, in The Bronx to his beloved parents, Catherine and James Farmer, both of whom preceded him in death. As one of 7, it was joked that his parents actually had 6 kids and Eddie!
Ed was a devoted husband to his wife Ruth, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage for 38 wonderful years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, unforgettable moments and countless inside jokes. Ed was a proud and loving father to his three daughters and their partners Nicole (Matt Shearouse), Stephanie (Scott Shulak) and Samantha (Babak Javadi), where he never fell short of attending events, kissing boo-boos and providing endless stories full of life advice and analogies. He took joy in being a Grandpa and "Pa" to his four grandchildren: Brady, Blake, Teddy and Rory. His "favorite" stage being the new wobbly walking phase where they can knock their heads. Ed's family was his pride and joy, and while he would do anything for any of them, his generosity extended far beyond.
Ed also leaves behind his three dear sisters, a brother, a brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and countless nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law "Ma" to whom he was extremely close, as well as his sister Ellen and brother Steve. He is now at peace where he's with all of them, can breathe easily and dance again!
Ed wasn't a standout student in his younger years, but found an early path after an aptitude test led him into auto mechanics (one of his favorite stories). His relentless pursuit of knowledge and skills did not stop there. Taking a leap of faith, he ventured into the then-new world of computers and became an extremely successful entrepreneur and business owner. When entering retirement, Ed remained active part-time in real estate and car sales, further embodying his business mind, drive and work ethic.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ed enjoyed being on the water and had numerous boats over the years. He had a profound passion for understanding the intricacies of life, often spending much of his free time researching various topics. He was always eager to share his knowledge and insights with family and friends. His enthusiasm for life was infectious and he had a great sense of humor, often entertaining everyone around him with his endearing (yet sometimes corny) dad jokes. Often known as the life of the party, Ed loved to dance and entertain, creating amazing memories for all who had the pleasure of knowing him, especially the Ramsey house basement parties - just ask anyone who attended.
Ed's passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Before his passing he was able to speak and visit with many friends and family. His family feels this fulfilled everything Ed loved while he was still with us. With everyone scattered, Ed would have liked to keep it easy, so no formal service will be held. Please have a personal toast and play a song you know he would have loved in his honor. His family will be holding a private spreading of his ashes to honor his life and the legacy he leaves behind, likely on the water, one of his favorite places.
In memory of Edward Thomas Farmer, let us carry forward his legacy of love, curiosity, and zest for life. Please remember his laughter, his kindness, and the joy he brought into every life he touched. May he rest in peace.
