Fred Sevier Deatherage was born on January 11, 1943 in Cincinnati Ohio to Fred E. Deatherage and Nellie Lou Carrothers. The oldest of three children. The family moved to Columbus Ohio when Fred's' father, a doctor of biochemistry, became a professor at Ohio State University.

He attended University School and North High School. Fred's father mentored world biochemistry scholars at Ohio State. In his junior year he was invited to live in Germany with Dr. Her Reiner Hamm and his family, his father's student. While there, he climbed mountains, became fluent in the German language and in his spare time traveled around Europe.

After high school, he spent 3 years at De Pauw, graduating early, after joining AF ROTC. His dream and goal were to be an Air Force pilot. Although, top in his class, his eyesight prevented him from finishing pilot training. He became a navigator. He was offered many choices, back seat navigator fighter plane assignments, but he preferred larger airplanes and crew experiences.

He was assigned to Barksdale AFB in Shreveport La. where he met and married Marylane Knapp a captain who lived next door in the BOQ. They were transferred to Eielson AFB outside of Fairbanks, Alaska where Fred was in a reconnaissance unit. While there they welcomed two children Fred Daniel in 1972 and Dean Anthony in 1974. They remained there for 5 years.

His next assignment was at Lehigh University where he recruited the best and brightest, and offered full scholarships to any university of their choice, later to serve as officers in the Air Force. From Pennsylvania he was sent on a remote tour to Korea. Because of this assignment he was able to choose his return base. He continued his work with the U2 and SR 71 airplanes and returned to Beale AFB California. After 18 years in the Service he said, 'I need to figure out what I'm going to do when I grow up' (retire). He tested and was accepted into MC George School of Law. He graduated after 4 years of night school and took and passed the bar. He retired, took the bar exam, and became a lawyer 2 months later.

He worked in a small workers Compensation firm for a year then applied for position as managing attorney for a nationwide insurance company. He was selected for the position ad became managing attorney for their northern California area. He traveled the state, and the firm did well. While working there he became a pro tem (volunteer) judge in small claims court in Sacramento Ca. He loved this work and was there for 19 years until we moved to Las Vegas Nevada.

He lived and worked in Sacramento and Elk Grove for 34 years. He was a member of Valley Hi Country Club and loved golf.

He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2019, although the symptoms had been recognized by him and the family. His sister Margaret suffered from the same disease and passed away in 2020. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marylane, sons Fred Daniel and Dean Anthony and a sister Nan O'Brien from Norfolk Nebraska, and many nieces and nephews.

He loved and supported his family in all ways possible. We will miss him.
