Fred G
Pinjuv
Jun 24, 1935 — May 6, 2025
Fred Gary Pinjuv, a proud Las Vegas native, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on June 24, 1935, in Las Vegas to Mike and Frances (Malner) Pinjuv, immigrants from Yugoslavia, Fred was the youngest of eight children in a bustling household. He was the second to last born, with six brothers and two sisters. His younger sister, Evana Petty, is the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Fred's life was marked by his deep love for his family, his commitment to service, and his many passions. He was a proud graduate of Las Vegas High School (class of 1953) and the University of Oregon (1957), where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Management. His strong sense of duty led him to serve in the United States Air Force, where he retired as a Major after dedicating much of his life to his country. Fred served in the 3352 Bomb Squadron and was a key figure in civilian preparedness for nuclear attack, serving in the Air Force Reserves until 1995.
Fred was also a fixture in the Las Vegas community, working in various fields throughout his life. He worked for Bonanza Airlines, the Nevada State Highway Department, and as a Real Estate Appraiser. His career and accomplishments were an expression of his tireless work ethic and pride in his hometown.
Above all, Fred loved spending time with his family. He had six children: Dorothy (ChiChi) Bengochea, Tina Pinjuv, Joe Pinjuv, Annie (Terry) Naumann, Jimmy Pinjuv, and Guy (Laura) Pinjuv, and the children's mother, Susie Pinjuv.
He was a doting grandfather to ten grandchildren—Danyelle, Ali, Aaron, Malena, Lily, Simon, Roxy, Matilda, Tallulah, and Mina—and was a proud great-grandfather to Kei'Air and Hollis, with two more great-grandchildren on the way.
Fred was known for his love of life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed eating out with friends, attending baseball games, playing tennis, and his lifelong passion for coin collecting. He was an active member of the Las Vegas Numismatic Society. Fred took great joy in shopping for others, finding the perfect gift, and he had a soft spot for Christmas, always making sure to have a multitude of gifts.
For those who knew him, Fred was a man of strong opinions and a love for spirited debates. He often delighted in giving a soda and a cupcake to anyone who came to visit him at home (just ask Mike the mailman!). Fred also had a fondness for doughnuts and relished a good conversation.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Angie, Charlie, Eddie, Wally, Johnny, and Mike. But his legacy lives on in his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless friends. He will be remembered for his generosity, his sense of humor, and his unwavering pride in his Las Vegas roots.
A celebration of Fred's life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11:00 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 5830 Mesa Park Drive, Las Vegas, NV. Family and friends are invited to gather later in the day to share laughs and memories of Fred at his house.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests sharing a lunch, a smile and good conversation in Fred's memory.
