Janet Marie (Caprioglio) Murphy, born February 29, 1932, in Cleveland, Ohio, passed away immersed in love and song on September 4, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She married Albert Francis Caprioglio in 1962; they divorced in 1974. Janet was the daughter of Ralph and Ethel Murphy, the second of six siblings. Her brothers Jack and Paul and her sister Marilyn predeceased her. She is survived by her siblings George Murphy and Eileen Schulz; her children Lisa Caprioglio, Carl Caprioglio, and Camille Caprioglio Parke; and her grandchildren Casey and Kevin Caprioglio, Meriel and Reilly Caprioglio-Chase, and Isabella and Grey Parke.

Janet was a devout Catholic, a parishioner at St. Lawrence Martyr Church in Redondo Beach and later American Martyrs in Manhattan Beach, California. In her final years she was a parishioner at St. John Neumann in Las Vegas, Nevada. Janet was the glue that held her extended family together. She was kind above all else, a gentle presence in the lives of those who knew and loved her. Involved in community theater in her youth, she enjoyed telling the story of acting with Bob Newhart before he was famous.

On the subject of fame, Janet was widely known for cake decorating and cookie baking, skills she taught to her children and grandchildren. She was also a dab hand at crochet. Janet was a talented administrative assistant, working at various times for the City of Torrance, the aerospace firm TRW, and the City of Oceanside. A dedicated, loving, and hardworking single mother, she raised her children with a keen sense of justice and integrity.

Fierce in her commitment to the causes she cared about, she gave so much to the communities of which she was a part. Janet was for many years an active member of American Martyrs parish, where she attended Mass regularly and was known for her beautiful delivery of the readings. From producing the residents' newsletter to campaigning for safer pedestrian access near the Manhattan Beach Senior Villas, where she lived, and from serving as a Boy Scout leader for her son's troop to volunteering with CERT and serving as a Eucharistic minister to the housebound in her later years, Janet will be remembered for her quiet dedication and compassion.

Her memorial service will take place on 10:00 am January 7, 2027 at American Martyrs Catholic Community, 700 15th Street, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to harmonyandhealing.org. If you feel moved to do so, plant a lilac bush in her memory. Janet adored lilacs. And hummingbirds. She also loved coffee ice cream, so treat yourself to a scoop and think of her.
