Obituary

Janice Claire (Martin) Deneault, age 71, passed away on July 27, 2024, after a courageous fight against cancer. Janice was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend.

Janice (Jan or Janie) was born in Providence, Rhode Island on January 16, 1953 to Lillian (Buco) Martin and Edward (Buddy) Martin. She was the youngest of three children (Robert "Bobby" Martin & Joyce Monfils). Her youth was marked by endless summers at the beach, Beatle-mania and first job mishaps all within a loving family who allowed her to be a flower child of the early sixties.

She had her first son, Raymond Logan at 17 with her first husband, Raymond Logan. She delighted in being a young mother and loved taking him on trips to Roger Williams Zoo, KISS concerts and sipping on Del's Lemonde.

At 27 she enrolled herself in hairdressing school after her divorce, where she was able to come onto her own and take on a profession that she loved. Making people feel beautiful and good about themselves came naturally to her and she soon grew her clientele. Clients became friends with each snip of the scissor or wrap of a perm rod.

She enjoyed traveling with her sister, one time doing cross country trip to Las Vegas on Route 66, not yet knowing that Vegas would be where she would call home years later. When she met David Deneault, they traveled extensively, visiting tropical locations that she fell in love with. Aruba was her favorite and she would often talk about the trip they took to Brazil in the 1980s. They married in 1991.

While Janice was working, traveling and having a great time into the early 90s, she was surprised when she found herself pregnant with her daughter Danielle. The two were inseparable and loved going to Disneyland, shopping (all the time) and you could always find them on the phone at all hours.

In 1995 the Deneault Family left Rhode Island for warmer weather and better opportunities, moving the family to Las Vegas, NV, where they have called home for the last 29 years. Under the desert sun, Janice built a new clientele working in salons before finally moving her hairdressing chair into her home so that she could work but also spend time with her family.

She welcomed her two grandsons in the early 2000s, Fall Raye and Nicholas Logan, she loved being a first-time grandma and would laugh when strangers would comment and tell her "my grandma never looked like you!"

Janice worked for VP security in the late 2010s. She loved attending events and one time even told Shaq "he couldn't stand here" when she was working at Summer League. Janice loved music and always had it on in the house no matter what she was doing. Billy Joel was her absolute favorite and on a trip to Long Island she tried to find his house (in hopes of kicking Christy Brinkley to the curb) but had no luck! Janice loved Cher, Kelly Clarkson, Michael Jackson, Rod Steward & Fleetwood Mac.

If you ever seen Janice driving around town you could always see her zipping around in her Volkswagen Jetta (a step up from her VW Bug of the 1960s)- she loved the red one she leased most of all. You could find her going to the beauty supply to pick up hair product on any given day or running into Kohls "real quick!" Janice loved holidays, she made sure to make them a monumental affair for her family. At Christmas she would bake trays of cookies to give to her family and friends, it was another way for her to show her love for the people she cared for.

In 2016 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent treatment which was successful. The cancer was put into remission for a number of years which allowed to welcome her granddaughter Sabrina into the world. Sabrina (Baby Sushi) lit up her world- she always said she was the best gift she received at the right time in her life.

Unfortunately, Janice's fight became too great and after a harrowing battle, she came to rest on Saturday July 27th. She now rests with her mother and father who she missed greatly, friends and other loved ones who had passed before her. Janice always remarked that God took the good ones too young and once again she was right.

She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her and be loved by her. She leaves behind a legacy of stories, amazing memories and cherished traditions that she created for her children. Her passing leaves a hole that can never be filled. Truly they broke the mold with Janice and there can never be another quite like her.
