Obituary

Jason Kuahiwi Lorenzo

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of Jason Kuahiwi Lorenzo, who passed away at the age of 65 on September 10, 2026, in Las Vegas. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend to many.

Jason was raised in Wahiawa, Oʻahu, and graduated from Leilehua High School before continuing his education at Leeward Community College. He worked for the City and County of Honolulu before retiring.

Jason was a respected cultural artisan devoted to preserving and perpetuating Hawaiian traditions. Though his rascal nature ranked him as the most dismissed and reinstated hula student to this day by his teacher, Loea Hula John Kahaʻi Topolinski, he went on to graduate in 2010 as the senior most ʻŌlohe Hula of Ka Pā Hula Hawaiʻi. He was also a passionate Kumu Hulu devoted to haku hulu, the traditional Hawaiian art of featherwork, which included the creation of kāhili and lei hulu. His talent and dedication to these cultural practices were a lasting tribute to his Hawaiian heritage and identity.

Jason is survived by his loving wife, Gayle—his soulmate, best friend, and devoted companion—whose unwavering love, care, and support were a constant source of strength and comfort throughout every season of their life together. He was a proud and adoring father to his sons, Vaughn (Victoria) Lorenzo and Shayne Lorenzo (Amber), and a loving grandfather to Liam, Lincoln, Aria, and Elijah. He is also survived and missed by his sweet fur baby, Cocoa.

He was the beloved son of the late Edward Lorenzo Sr. and Helen Saromines Lorenzo. Jason’s siblings include Edward “Bully” Lorenzo (Iris), deceased; Dane Lorenzo, deceased; Patrick (Dana) Lorenzo; David Lorenzo; Aaron (Gretchen) Lorenzo, deceased; Nathan (Stacey) Lorenzo; and Hedi “Deedee” Lorenzo. Private services were held. Those who wish to honor Jason’s memory may make a memorial donation to help with medical expenses.

Donations may be sent to: Gayle Lorenzo P.O. Box 28306 Las Vegas, NV 89126

Jason will be deeply missed. His passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts and lives of all who knew and loved him, but his spirit, aloha, and love will remain with us always.

Rest in peace, Jason Kuahiwi. A hui hou—until we meet again.
