Jeffery Harold Daugherty, lovingly known as Jeff, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the age of 66. Born on January 15, 1960, in Bremerton, Washington, Jeff was the son of Philip E. and Burnell E. Daugherty. He lived a life shaped by faith, service, honesty, and an enduring love for the people closest to him.
Jeff pursued his education in Seattle, earning a bachelor's degree and completing two years of Bible college, studying in two areas. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was an ordained minister who loved the church and the opportunity to serve others. He also proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, carrying with him a spirit of dedication and commitment.
Jeff later pursued a career in corrections, where his determination and ability were evident. He graduated at the top of his class in corrections officer training before eventually retiring. Throughout his life, he was known for his honesty, thoughtfulness, and unmistakable sense of humor. He had a way of making people feel comfortable and valued, and he was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Outside of his professional and ministry work, Jeff found joy in the simple things that made life meaningful. He loved fishing, spending time with family, and being involved in his church. These moments offered him opportunities to connect with the people he loved and create memories that will be treasured for years to come.
One of the greatest joys of Jeff's life was his marriage to Melodie L. Daugherty. The two were married on March 9, 1991, in Seattle, Washington, and shared 35 years of marriage filled with love, companionship, and memories. Jeff's affection for Melodie was never a secret. He often sang to her, expressing his love in a way that was uniquely his own. It was one of the many ways he reminded her how deeply she was cherished.
Jeff's legacy lives on through his beloved wife, Melodie, and their three children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip E. and Burnell E. Daugherty, and his brother, Greg.
Those who knew Jeff will remember a man whose faith guided him, whose humor brought smiles, and whose love for his family remained at the center of his life. His honesty, thoughtfulness, and willingness to share himself with others left a lasting impression. Though his passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who loved him, the memories he created and the love he gave will continue to live on.
A memorial service celebrating Jeff's life will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2026, immediately following Sunday service at Discovery Church on
4370 W. Cheyenne Avenue, North Las Vegas, Nevada.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and thanksgiving for a life that touched so many.
And in a final, tender reflection of the love he shared with Melodie, we remember the song he so often sang to her:
"For I can't help falling in love with you."
