Jo-Ann Harper was born on August 30, 1948 to George and Josephine Newchurch in Los Angeles, California. She was the fourth born child of seven children. The family moved to Compton, California in 1950.
In 1966 she graduated from Compton High School. Jo-Ann also attended Compton Community College in Compton, CA. She also played the guitar and was very good at it.
Jo-Ann met Clyde Louis Harper, and the two were married in July of 1970. Two children were born to this union.
She worked in a real estate office, also as a bank teller, and later in 1979-2006 as a transcriber typist for the County of Los Angeles Probation Department, serving a total of 26 years. What she later moved to Las Vegas, NV in October 2012.
Jo-Ann was preceded in death by her father George NewChurch, mother Josephine Newchurch, two brothers Gary Newchurch , Robyn Newchurch , and a sister Cheryl Newchurch. Also, her late husband, Clyde Louis Harper, and a Great-Grand Daughter, Precious Angel Siler.
Jo-Ann is survived by her two sisters, Georgetta Newchurch Clemmons (Texas), Brenda Newchurch-Roberts (Compton, CA), her brother George Newchurch Jr. (Compton, CA).
Jo-Ann is also survived by her two daughters, TaLesha D. Harper (Gilbert, AZ). and Nakia T. Harper-Brown (Lamont D. Brown), son-in-law (North Las Vegas, NV). She also survived by her (5) grandkids (Little Geno) Sterling Calhoun lll of (Los Angeles, CA), Asia Wanyae Ball (North Las Vegas, NV), Alisa Ariel Ball (Las Vegas, NV), Aaliyah Renee Brown (Las Vegas, NV) and Lamont D. Brown Jr (DJ).
Also (3) great-grandchildren, Ka'Liyah K. Siler, Brayden Q. Sanders, and Mi'Kia Okema Johnson (Pebbles).
Jo-Ann was loved by everyone. Her legacy will live on forever. Most of all her daughters were her biggest accomplishment.
Jo-Ann Will never be forgotten. We will love and honor her memory forever. Fly high, our beautiful angel. We Love You Mom. Love your girls, Lisa & Nikky.
