Obituary

Beloved beautiful mother.

Joan R. DAndrea, 92, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2024, in Henderson, NV. Born on October 19, 1931, in Chicago, IL, Joan was the daughter of Martin P. Rybacki and Harriet Glowacki Rybacki. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Alfred I. DAndrea, her son Alfred I. DAndrea Jr., and her brothers Martin P. Rybacki, Michael Rybacki, and Edward Rybacki.

Joan is survived by her loving children Andree (Curt) Sandahl, Joyce (Gary) Willis, James DAndrea, and cherished grandchildren Alexis and Max Dougherty.

Joan attended Five Holy Martyrs grammar school and graduated with honors from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Chicago, IL. She began her career at Stone Container, where she made many enduring friendships, before marrying the love of her life, Alfred I. DAndrea, on November 16, 1957. Joan exhibited immense bravery and devotion as a mother following the untimely loss of her husband in March of 1971.

Later in life, Joan worked as an accountant at Oak Forest Hospital in Illinois until her retirement. She then relocated to Henderson, NV, where she embraced a life filled with travel, friendships, the opera, movies, and flower arranging. Joan had a passion for good competitive card games and was an avid reader from a very young age. She loved learning, baking, and was renowned for her culinary skills, carrying on many cherished family traditions.

Joan was known for her wit, humor, intelligence, courage, and kindness. Her zest for life was infectious, and she touched the hearts of all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at her long-time parish, St. Francis of Assisi, with additional services to follow later in the summer in the Chicago area.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staffs of St. Rose Dominican Hospital and Nathan Adelson Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Joans final days.
