Joan "Joanie" Gist, aged 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Las Vegas, Nevada, on the morning of June 6, 2025. Born on March 11, 1947, Joan spent her early years in Clifton, New Jersey and graduated from Clifton Senior High School. She later embarked on a fulfilling career, initially working as a Warehouse Supervisor before retiring from the hospitality industry as a housekeeper.
Joan was known for her warm sense of humor, loving nature, and unwavering loyalty to her friends and family. She was deeply committed to her community, engaging in various activities to support local homeless and senior citizens. Joan was an avid bowler, a passionate cook, and enjoyed shopping and taking care of others.
She cherished the simple pleasures of life, like driving to Primm, Nevada with her husband for White Castle burgers and lottery tickets, or spending quality time with her stepdaughter, with whom she shared an exceptionally close bond.
Raised in the Baptist faith, Joan carried the values of her upbringing throughout her life, influencing her actions and interactions with those around her.
Joan is survived by her husband, Jackson L. Gist; stepchildren, Danielle Gist and Jerome P. Gist; sister, Doris Jastrzebski; and niece, Christina D. Rish, among other loving relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Novick, Sr. and Josephine Sefcik, and her brother, George Novick Jr., and her stepdaughter Jacqueline Gist.
In accordance with her wishes, Joan was cremated without any formal memorial service. Those who wish to honor Joan's memory can contribute to local initiatives supporting the homeless and senior citizens, continuing her legacy of helping those in need.
