John H. Clark, 85, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada, surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Born on May 15, 1941, to Clara and Clarence Clark, John lived a remarkable life dedicated to his family, the labor movement, and serving his community. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1 for 70 years. His career in the electrical trade began at just 15 years old as a summer helper for Ledbetter Electric, beginning a lifelong connection to the trade and the labor movement he loved.
John devoted 21 years to serving the United Way of Greater St. Louis as Vice President of Labor Engagement. Through his work, he brought together organized labor and the community, mobilizing union members to support those in need. He helped raise thousands of dollars and made a difference in the lives of hundreds of individuals and families. His contributions to the labor movement and community were recognized with the prestigious Andy Owens Community Achievement Award from the St. Louis Labor Council.
His commitment to public service extended beyond United Way. John served on the St. Louis Community College Board of Trustees and as longtime Vice-Chairperson of the Civil Service Commission for the City of St. Louis. He was a trusted voice for union members and working people, and a tireless advocate for fairness and opportunity.
In 1964, John married Jean Clark, and together they raised five children: Lisa (Kirby) Walker, Robin (Mark) Espy, John (Lori) Clark, Keith (Maryellen Owens) Clark, and Jennifer (Dan) Bader.
Jean preceded him in death in 2004. John later married Chanidapa Sriphawong, who shared the last 15 years of his life as his loving wife.
John leaves behind his wife, five children, 20 grandchildren, and 20 great and great- great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Pat (Emil) and Loretta (Charlie). He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Clarence; his first wife, Jean; and his sister Carol. His brother-in-law, Ron, survives him.
John will be remembered for his lifelong dedication to working people, his generosity toward those in need, and the countless lives he touched throughout his career and community. His influence extended far beyond the positions he held and the awards he received. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of service, family, and commitment to making his community a better place.
