Obituary

John Henry Smith, age 84, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at 6:41 p.m. He was born on March 21, 1941, in Lincoln County, Mississippi, to Tyree Culver and William Culver. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, John lived a full life defined by quiet strength, dedication to his craft, and love for his family. He pursued training in Electronic Engineering and went on to build a long and respected career as a Booth Engineer with Century and Cinemark Theatres, retiring with honors and recognition for his contributions. John was united in marriage twice in his lifetime-first in June 1963 in Los Angeles, California, to Lela Jackson, and later in June 1975 in Tahoe, California, to his beloved wife Geraldine Rosborough Smith, who survives him. Outside of work, John enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He was an avid dominoes and solitaire player, a devoted fan of western television shows and horse racing, and a passionate collector of coins and stamps. His hobbies reflected his thoughtful nature, love of history, and appreciation for detail. John leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his wife Geraldine Smith; daughter Rhonda Haslett; one son-in-law; two sons; one stepson; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, and their children. A private ceremony will be held to honor John's life, as requested by the family. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to everyone who knew John, laughed with him, and loved him. He will truly be missed. He Is Gone You can shed tears that he is gone, or you can smile because he has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all he's left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see him, or you can be full of the love you shared You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember him only that he is gone, or you can cherish his memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back. Or you can do what he'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on. Safely Home I am home in Heaven, dear ones; Oh, so happy and so bright! There is perfect joy and beauty In this everlasting light. All the pain and grief is over, Every restless tossing passed; I am now at peace forever, Safely Home in Heaven at last.
