Obituary

With heavy hearts and a lifetime of love, we announce the passing of Joseph Carney Jr., who passed away on October 7, 2026, at the age of 77.

Joseph was a strong, caring, intelligent, and incredibly creative man who had a heart for helping others. He was the kind of person who always seemed to have an answer for everything and could fix just about anything. Whether someone needed a helping hand, a problem solved, a good laugh, or a home-cooked meal, Joseph had a way of making things better. He was resourceful, funny, brave, and never afraid of hard work. He lived life on his own terms and never allowed others to define who he was.

Raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Joseph's life was marked by determination, courage, and perseverance. He left high school to serve his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, answering a call to serve at a young age. After returning home, he worked his way up from the mail room at the VA hospital to become a drafting engineer at Hoover Dam. His journey was a testament to his intelligence, work ethic, and determination to build a life through his own hard work. He was a man who proved that where you begin does not determine how far you can go.

Joseph had a natural ability to figure things out and create things with his hands and his mind. There was little he wouldn't try and very little he couldn't fix. He was also a wonderful cook who brought his own special touch to the things he did. Beyond all his talents, one of the things that made him special was his willingness to help others. He gave of himself, shared what he knew, and faced life's challenges with a strength that those who knew him will never forget.

One of Joseph's great loves was flying. There was something special about the freedom of being in the air, and it was a passion that held a meaningful place in his life.

Above all, Joseph was a father, a husband, great grandfather and a grandfather whose place in his family's lives can never be replaced. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Viki Carney; his daughters, Tami Carney, Debra Regalado, and Robin Carney; his grandchildren, Joseph Bender, Bella Carney, and Aiden Sanders; and his great-grandchildren, Joseph and Alister.

He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph William Carney; his great grand daughter Astrid; his sister, Barbara; his brother, Stephen; and his parents, Joseph and Dorthy Carney.

Losing someone who has been such a strong presence in your life leaves a space that words can never truly fill. There are so many things that will be missed about Joseph: his humor, his intelligence, his creativity, his ability to fix anything, his willingness to help, and the strength with which he faced the world. The memories he created and the lessons he taught will continue to live on through the people who loved him.

A man like Joseph leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind pieces of himself in the people he helped, the things he built, the knowledge he shared, the meals he prepared, and the family who will forever carry his love with them.

Dad, thank you for the strength you showed, the things you taught us, the laughter you gave us, and the many ways you made a difference. You were one of a kind, and there will never be another you. Though saying goodbye is heartbreaking, the love we have for you does not end here. You will always be a part of us, in our stories, in our memories, and in the love that will continue through generations.

You lived life your own way, stood strong through every challenge, and left your mark on this world. You will be loved, missed, and remembered always.

Rest peacefully, Dad. You will forever be in our hearts.
