Joseph "Joe" Shuman, 90, of North Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on May 2, 2023. Joe was born in Norfolk, Virginia on December 7,1932 to parents Bessie and Harry Shuman. Joe grew up in Atlantic City, New Jersey, eventually moving to Washington DC where he met the love of his life and soulmate Harriet Shuman. They married on January 22, 1961 at The Hotel Hamilton in Washington DC. From that loving union, they had two children, Brian and Michelle. Joe was an enrolled agent for the federal government and served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Joe was a former president of GHC Synagogue that he helped to form in Gaithersburg, MD. Joe and his wife lived in Las Vegas for the last 13 years.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Harriet Shuman, son Brian (Yael) Shuman of Denver, CO; Michelle (Paul) Madick of Capistrano Beach, CA, grandchildren Nathaniel (Leah Effron) Madick of Los Angeles, CA, Shoshana Madick of New Orleans, LA, Melissa (David) Wicklund of Tampa, FL, Aaron Shuman of Orlando, FL, Benjamin Shuman of Fort Collins, CO, great grandchildren Violet Wicklund and Isaac Wicklund of Tampa, FL, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him greatly.
Joe was pre-deceased by his parents and sisters, Mildred Rice, and Rose Thalheimer.
Burial with military honors will take place on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 1 PM at Palm Northwest Cemetery, 6701 N. Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89131. Following the burial, the family will sit Shiva at the family home. Donations may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice in Joe's memory.
