Obituary

Juanita was born December 1, 1947 in Wewoka Oklahoma where she spent her early childhood. Later, her family would relocate to California, eventually landing her in Oakland where she remained most of her life before finally retiring to one of her favorite vacation destinations, Las Vegas Nevada.
Juanita dedicated her life to serving and nurturing others. She worked for decades as a registered nurse offering comfort, expertise, and a gentle hand to countless patients.
While she enjoyed her career and helping the community, Juanita's true joy was found in her role as a mother; raising her Son, Rodney Simmons along with her nieces and nephews Shadra Michelle Hawkins, Kimberly Hawkins, Erik Lockett, and Antony Sutton. However, her greatest and most cherished role was being a grandmother to Rovan Simmons, Catrina Simmons, Jessica Simmons, Taylor Melton, Jordan Mokana, Isaiah Fulcher, Shanell Byias, Jeremiah Hawkins, Terry Benjamin, James Ricardo Jenkins, Persia Oliver, Marquie Stewart and a long list of great grandchildren. All of whom she loved dearly and spoiled at every opportunity.
She also knew how to enjoy life's simple pleasures. She found fun and excitement in a day at the ballpark watching the Oakland A's, the bright neon lights of Las Vegas and sometimes a tropical destination in the Caribbean; but most often you could find her relaxing enjoying a cup of coffee (or a beer!) watching her favorite courtroom and crime dramas or sharing stories and reminiscing with a loved one.
Juanita was truly an amazing woman, so very loved by many. She created lasting memories filled with joy, infectious laughter, good food, and her undeniable love and generosity. Her legacy and spirit will live on forever through the family and friends she leaves behind.
Gone but never forgotten, forever in our hearts.
Rest in peace Nina
