Karyn J. Anderson,

Sunrise: September 28, 1949 - Sunset: August 28, 2026

Born in Virginia, Minnesota, to Carol A.M. Westling and Tedd Anderson, Karyn lived in her hometown until September 1967, when she moved to Minneapolis to attend the Minnesota School of Business. In 1968, she married Thomas J. Basarich, and together they raised four children. They shared thirty years together before divorcing in 1998.

Karyn lived a life defined by service, dedication, and a deep, abiding faith. A very spiritual person who deeply enjoyed the Word of God, her favorite book from the Bible was the Book of James. She kept exceptionally busy putting her values into action, teaching Sunday School to children and adults and serving as President of the Human Rights Commission in Sioux City, Iowa. Professionally, she worked as a clerk in the corporate office for the Metz Baking Company and later in the Child Protection Center at Marian Health Center (now Mercy Medical) in Sioux City.

Demonstrating incredible perseverance, Karyn returned to college later in life, earning her Bachelor of Arts with honors in Communication Disorders in 1997, followed by a Master of Arts in Communication Disorders - Speech-Language Pathology in 1999, both from the University of South Dakota. Following her graduation, she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, to work as a speech-language pathologist in the Clark County School District. She retired in 2014 and spent her final years living in Henderson, Nevada.

Karyn had a vibrant spirit and a generous heart. She immensely enjoyed decorating, painting, shopping, gift-giving, reading, going to the movies, participating in her book club, and spending cherished time with friends and family. A lifelong humanitarian, she regularly supported charities and genuinely believed in lifting up those less fortunate.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tedd Anderson and Carol A.M. Westling; her sister, Lynda Lomsak; as well as her maternal and paternal grandparents, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Karyn is survived by her four children: Shannon Basarich - Oakland, CA, Nathan Basarich - Sioux City, IA, Jesse (Lisa Brun) Basarich - Sioux City, IA, and Mandisa (Madeline Houghton) Basarich - Elk Grove, CA; six grandchildren: Alexa (Nick) Bonn, Reilly (Chase Stockton) Basarich, Gabriel Basarich, Garik Jensen, Dashawn Houghton-Basarich, and Mia Basarich; two great-grandchildren: Ezra Stockton, and Zeke Stockton; her sister, Lori (Denny) Ryan; her aunt, Claryce Oman; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
