Kevin Francis
O'Donoghue
May 4, 1955 — Sep 24, 2026
Kevin Francis O'Donoghue, 71, passed away on September 24, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born May 4, 1955, Kevin was the son of Francis O'Donoghue and Joanne Ripjack O'Donoghue. He was the oldest of four children, with two brothers, Kelly and Kerry, and a sister, Reece, all of whom preceded him in death. Kevin's early life was rooted in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a place that remained important to him throughout his life.
Kevin was a hardworking and dependable man. He worked six days a week for much of his life, rain or shine, and took pride in working hard and showing up. He believed in respecting his elders and treating others the way he would want to be treated. He believed that doing good and being good to others had a way of coming back around.
Kevin had tremendous love and respect for his mother and always spoke highly of her. He admired the way she cared for her family and often talked about how well she did with the circumstances she was given. His mother had asked him to look out for his siblings, and as the oldest, Kevin carried that responsibility with him throughout his life. He always felt it was his place to be there for them and take care of them in the ways he could.
Kevin also had the opportunity to travel and see places both in the United States and abroad. He was grateful for those experiences. Near the end of his life, while reflecting on the years behind him, Kevin said he had no regrets and believed he had lived a good life.
An avid reader, Kevin could spend hours with a book and was particularly proud of a Kindle reading streak that reached nearly 1,400 consecutive days. He also enjoyed classic rock and movies. Like his brothers, Kevin was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, something the O'Donoghue brothers shared over the years. Kevin was a longtime Star Wars fan as well, making his May 4 birthday especially fitting.
Although Kevin could be quiet and tended to keep to himself, he was a steady presence in the lives of the people he loved. He was there for weddings, births, birthdays, new homes and countless other milestones over the years. He had a playful sense of humor, loved to tease and joke with those close to him, and gave the kind of big hugs his family will always remember.
Kevin is survived by his nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and their families, along with friends and others whose lives he touched over the years.
In accordance with his wishes, Kevin will be cremated, with plans for his ashes to be scattered alongside those of his brothers at a railroad in Pennsylvania that held special meaning to them.
Kevin will be remembered for his work ethic, his humor, his love of the Steelers and reading, but most of all, for the many years he spent simply being there for the people he loved.
He will be deeply missed.
May the Force be with him. Always.
