LaDonna Marie (Skeen) Holbrook 74, of Las Vegas, NV beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend passed away after a prolonged battle with CIDP, a rare autoimmune disorder that attacks the nerves, and transitioned peacefully in the embrace of her family on September 17, 2023 at the Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, NV. She was born on December 19, 1948 to Wayne D. and Marian (Bach) Skeen in Twin Falls, ID.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years Jack, daughters Chanele with grandson Ethan, Dawnele with granddaughters Alexandra and Bristol, and son Deric (Joanne) with granddaughter Kailey and grandson Devin.
She is also survived by her sisters Linda Hansen, Mickie (Roger) Matthews, Mary Jo (Shawn) Sauer, brother Vern (Dallas) Skeen and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends throughout the country. She was preceded in death by her parents Marian and Wayne, sister Renetta, brothers Robert, Michael and Russell.
Seeking adventure and a new beginning in life, LaDonna moved to San Diego, CA in June of 1966 where a chance meeting with her soulmate Jack in September 1966, blossomed into a whirlwind courtship and ultimate fulfillment of destiny with their marriage on February 12, 1967 creating an unforgettable lifetime together lasting 56 years, 7 months and 5 days.
LaDonna, affectionately called "Dee" by family and friends, was a caring and giving mother that dedicated her life to the care of her children and unwavering support for her husband throughout their lifetime together. She was the driving force for maintaining a normal family life during Jacks career in the U.S. Navy where he was deployed numerous times away from home and family including several extended periods of 9 to 18 months where she was the "head of the household" and kept all the lights burning. She endured 9 family and household moves across the country, living in 6 different states before retiring in August of 2017 to Las Vegas, NV. She was always fully committed with her childrens involvement in school activities and academics, sports, girl scouts and social activities. She was always a "stay at home mom" but also worked for the St Marys County School District in Southern Maryland as a teachers assistant and special education instructor where she touched so many lives with her caring and affectionate ways, desire to give and for providing unwavering support for her students academic efforts.
There will be a celebration of life to be announced at a later date in the late summer of 2024 with a specific location identified to spread her ashes in her beloved Sawtooth Mountains in Southern Idaho near the Baker Creek area where Robert and Mikes ashes were spread and also Smiley Creek where her family had a beloved cabin during the 1950s.
