Larry Dean Lovelett, 69, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 7, 2025. Born on May 8, 1955, in Marion, Iowa, Larry was the beloved son of Ronald E. and Doris L. Lovelett and brother of Terry Lovelett.
A proud graduate of Linn-Mar High School, class of 1973, Larry was a varsity offensive tackle for the Lions before beginning a distinguished 14-year career in the United States Marine Corps. Rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant, he earned numerous honors including the Rifle Expert Badge (7th Award), Pistol Sharpshooter Badge, Good Conduct Medal with three stars, and multiple commendations for exemplary service both at home and overseas.
Following his military service, Larry dedicated his civilian career to helping others through organizations such as the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, HELP of Southern Nevada, Nevada Partners Inc., and the Equus One Stop Center. He retired in 2023.
On July 25, 1981, Larry married Ellen C. Lovelett. Though divorced in 2009, the two remained friends throughout his life. Larry found immense joy in being a father and grandfather. He is survived by his former spouse, Ellen Lovelett; children Gregory Lovelett and Crystal Lovelett; son-in-law Edwin Ruvalcaba; daughter-in-law Gabrielle Lovelett; grandson Evan Ruvalcaba; and his loyal dog, Nugget.
Larry was a man of quiet strength, known for his love of fishing, cigars, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Kansas City Chiefs. Above all, he cherished time spent with his grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Doris Lovelett.
A burial with military honors will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 12:40 p.m. at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Dr., Boulder City, NV 89005. Arrangements are entrusted to Care Cremation & Burial, Las Vegas.
Larry's life was one of service, loyalty, and deep devotion to family. He will be deeply missed.
