Obituary

Leslie was born in Washington D.C. on November 1st, 1956, though it took her children years to know the actual year. She liked to tell us she was born on All Saints' Day for a reason; we liked to lovingly suggest the reason was that she'd been born one day late. Her parents, Armand and Eleanor, had five children, and Leslie was the youngest. By her mid-twenties Leslie managed three gas stations, which is how she met her husband Jeff. It was love at first sight. They had their first date in April and were married in June. They have been married 41 years. Leslie was the head of the family, the stay-at-home mom who kept everything (and everyone!) in line while still managing to crack us up daily with new games and inventions. As children, we especially loved "mommy monster," which is much less horrifying than it sounds. Our parents would turn off the lights and chase us around in the dark in something akin to tag while we shrieked with a combination of glee and terror. Leslie was easily one of the most intelligent people in any room she entered. Her sly wit quickly showed and her sarcasm was all-consuming in the best way. We all sought her wisdom and advice, knowing if she didn't know the answer she could point us in the right direction. She read voraciously, picking up facts from news articles, fantasy novels, and time travel stories that she managed to weave into conversation and always having something interesting to tell us or new characters and plots to discuss. Besides her family Leslie loved two things the most: horses and horror. She often teased her husband about not buying her a horse. We all knew it wasn't actually a joke, and her trips with us to Chincoteague for the annual Pony Penning were just her checking to see if this summer would be the one she convinced him to bring a horse home. She passed her love of horror and true crime along to all three of her children. We all enjoy a good (or bad!) scary movie, as does her husband Jeff. He doesn't listen to true crime podcasts for fun like we do, however. Leslie is survived by two of her older brothers, Larry and Joe, her three children, Christie, Chelsea, and Jeffrey Jr., and her devoted husband, Jeffrey. Leslie lived by lines taken from a song she used to sing along to regularly. We feel she believed this completely and it's advice she'd want to pass on: "God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy!" You'll forever be missed. ❤️
