Maria Christina Avrameas-Castleberry, fondly known as Mia, passed away on Monday, February 21st, 2022, in Las Vegas, Nevada, after bravely battling COPD for over a decade. She was 65 years old.
Born on September 12th, 1956, in Windsor, Ontario, Maria was the daughter of Sonia Sophia Voutsara. She shared her childhood with her younger brother PeterJohn Mousis, whom she helped raise and doted on. Maria attended both Fairfax & Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, before graduating in 1974. She dedicated many years of her life as a Keno Runner before embracing full-time homemaking.
Maria's interests were vast and varied. She found joy in reading high fantasy novels and cozy mysteries, indulging in needlework, exploring eyeshadow palettes, and nurturing her love for gardening until illness intervened. Her devotion to her Greek heritage and Greek Orthodox faith was unwavering, a legacy she passed down to her children.
Known for her quick wit and extensive knowledge of world history, Maria was always ready to share stories and laughter with those around her.
Maria is survived by her four children: twin daughters Sonia Castleberry and Christina Castleberry-Tapia (Gerardo), son Patrick-Bruce Castleberry (Emily), and youngest daughter Anastasia Brosnan (Craig). She leaves behind her cherished granddaughter Elephteria, sister-in-law Stacy Butler (Craig), and her beloved feline companions Jasper, Casper, and Nightshade.
She was predeceased by her mother Sonia Sophia Voutsara, brother PeterJohn Mousis, in-laws Bruce and Patsy Castleberry, and numerous beloved furbabies, cats, birds, and dogs alike.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Cavalry Chapel Red Rock on Saturday, March 26th, 2022, at 12:00pm, to honor Maria's remarkable life.
Maria will be sorely missed by all those who were lucky enough to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, understanding, and unwavering philotimo.
