Maria Angeles "Angie" Canonoy was surrounded by family as she passed away on November 20, 2024, after a brave battle with cancer. Angie was born on September 21, 1934, in Irosin, Philippines. After graduating as valedictorian, she immigrated to the United States, where she built a life for her and her four children. She was a true New Yorker, calling the city her home for 50 years. She touched countless lives while working as an ER nurse, including nearly 20 years at the VA Hospital in Manhattan. Known for her love of sewing, Angie poured herself into creating everything from First Communion dresses and extravagant Halloween costumes to mending beloved toys. Her sharp intellect and competitive spirit shone brightly in everything she did, particularly in games of wits. She also had a special love for each of her dogs and embraced all their quirks and personalities. Angie is preceded in death by her father Arturo de Castro, mother Rosario "Charito" Dauden Vda. de Castro, brother Arturo "Boy" de Castro, and sister Pilar "Pingo" Almonte. She is survived by her brother Ramon "Chito" de Castro and sister Maria Teresa "Tita" Paguirigan; her children Mia (Joe), Benjamin (Victoria), Matt (May) and Fred (Ellen); her beloved grandchildren Angel, Jessica (Brian), Masson (Lexus), Jennifer (Miguel), Stephanie (Kevin), and Jeffrey (Dahlia); her great-grandchildren Theo, Evelyn, Zoe, Harper, Milo, and Brinley. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a cancer research foundation in Angie's memory. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to be touched by her love, her stories, her competitive spirit, and her unwavering strength.
