MariaConcepcion "Connie" Salmorin West, born on November 24, 1953, in Cavite, Philippines, was a beacon of love and kindness. She went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ at the Nathan Adelson Hospice - Tenaya Center in Las Vegas, Nevada on Friday August 9, 2024. She was the cherished daughter of Protacio Salmorin and Praxedes Lumbre.
Connie's life was marked by adventure and accomplishment. In 1974, she lived with her sister Nelda and brother-in-law James Pancho at San Miguel Naval Base, where she met Merle E. Goody Jr., a Marine stationed as a guard there. They married on January 26, 1975, and together they were blessed with two children, MariaCristina "Marie" and Jason. Though her marriage with Merle ended in 1986, they remained united in their love for their children.
A woman of diverse talents, Connie worked at UTA in Iowa City before discovering her passion for martial arts. It was through TaeKwonDo that she met Langley J. West. They married in 1986 (later divorced in 2000) and together they ran The Coralville Academy of Martial Arts in Coralville, Iowa. Connie achieved the rank of 2nd degree black belt. On the side, she climbed the ladder with Mary Kay Cosmetics. In 1994, her adventurous spirit led her to Las Vegas, Nevada, where she pursued a career in healthcare, earning her medical assistant certification and working as a phlebotomist at Quest Labs.
Connie's heart belonged to her children and four grandchildren, Dylan, Brendan, Abby, and Eli, who were the light of her life. She cherished beautiful things and found joy in dancing, shopping and dining at fancy restaurants. Above all, Connie was known for her boundless generosity and unwavering support for her family and those in need.
She is survived by her daughter, Maria (Jonny) Lipford (Dylan, Brendan, Abby, Eli) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son, Jason Goody of Las Vegas, NV; ex-husbands, Merle E. Goody Jr. of Iowa City, Iowa and Langley J. West of Bellingham, WA; sister Nelda (James) Pancho of Mililani, Hawaii; brother Joe (Aida) Salmorin of Bataan, Philippines; sister Luz Salmorin of Cavite, Philippines and Nelita (Robert) Hanus of North Carolina; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her Mother, Praxedes Salmorin; Father, Protacio Salmorin; brother Romy Salmorin, sisters Aurea Salmorin, Bibiana McClanahan and nephew, Wilner Presa.
Connie's legacy of love, compassion, and strength will forever be remembered by her family and friends. She will live on in the memories of all who were fortunate to know her.
A small viewing service will be held at Care Cremation and Burial in Las Vegas, NV on Thursday August 15, 2024 at 4 pm for immediate family and close friends. A Celebration of Connie's life and the impact she had on others will be held in Iowa at a later date.
