Obituary

In Loving Memory of Mark T. Calhoun

Mark T. Calhoun, 78, of Henderson, Nevada, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026. He was born on July 30, 1948, to Kenneth Sr. and Mary Calhoun.

Mark was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was marked by love, compassion, humor, and an unwavering commitment to the communities he served.

He attended Chime Elementary School and University High School before continuing his education at the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1971. Mark went on to build a distinguished career in public service and engineering. He began his professional journey in Three Rivers, Michigan, serving as City Engineer, before moving to Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he continued in that role.

In 1982, Mark and his family made Henderson, Nevada, their home. There, he continued his career in municipal government, serving as City Engineer, Public Works Director, Assistant City Manager, and ultimately City Manager before retiring. He also held a Professional Engineer's license and additional professional credentials earned throughout his career. Mark took great pride in his work and in making a meaningful difference in the communities he served.

On May 6, 1967, Mark married the love of his life, Marcella “Marcy” Snyder, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Together, they shared nearly six decades of marriage and built a beautiful family.

Outside of his professional life, Mark enjoyed woodworking, roller skating, baseball, and football. He was known for his playful personality and his ability to tease and joke with those around him. His sense of humor could bring laughter to a room, but beneath that playful spirit was a deeply compassionate and loving man who cared sincerely for the people in his life.

Mark will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Marcella “Marcy” Calhoun; his son, Jason Calhoun; his daughter, Lulana Heron and her husband, Matthew; his grandsons, Declan and Easton Heron; his siblings, Charlotte Calhoun, Kenneth Calhoun Jr, and Jean Northrup; his best friend, John Doornhaag, and Mark's many extended family members and friends who were blessed to know him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Sr. and Mary Calhoun; his grandparents; and his sister, Jean Northrup.

Mark leaves behind a legacy of service, laughter, compassion, and love. His impact reached far beyond his professional accomplishments, living on through his family, friendships, and the countless lives he touched throughout his journey. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
