The family of Mary Louise (Mary Lou) Bodan is saddened to announce her peaceful passing in Las Vegas, Nevada on Friday September 26, 2025 at the age of 92 after a long illness. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years W. Robert Bodan. She was born Mary Louise Fineis on September 7, 1933 in St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. She was the daughter of the late Regina and Williams Fineis. Mary Lou was predeceased by her half brother George Bridson and his wife Marie. George and Marie had six sons. Throughout her life Mary Lou continued to share a bond with her brother's family.
Mary Lou grew up in Lansing, Michigan where she developed her love for snow and Boxer dogs. She graduated from Saint Mary Cathedral High School in 1951 where she was involved in the Glee Club, was the Freshman Secretary, Mission Correspondence Secretary, a cheerleader, Homecoming queen, Herald editor and a member of the Leonine Club. The Commencement exercises took place in St. Mary Cathedral with the girls in traditional white caps and gowns and the boys in royal blue. Mary Lou went on to attend Marygrove College in Detroit where she graduated with her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1955. Mary Lou was one of the four out of five students who worked at least part of their way through school on an "earn and learn" program and was featured in a newspaper article celebrating National Education Week. Mary Lou was also featured in several newspaper articles highlighting the "Operation Bicycle" program for a re-instated physical education program and as a model for city college wear.
Mary Lou became engaged to her husband Bob when he was known as Army Pfc. W. Robert. The announcement was posted in the Passaic, NJ Herald News on February 8, 1957. They were married June 17, 1957. Mary Lou still had a stack of letters written to her from Bob describing his adventures in the Army and his love for her.
Survived by children daughter Maryann and late husbands Mark and Paul, their children Mark Jr and his wife Vicki, Robert (decd), Caylie and her husband Daniel. Daughter Susanne and son-in-law Tom, their children Nicole, Christopher and Josh (decd). Son Robert and former wife Christine, their children Christopher and his wife Samantha and Bobby (decd). Daughter Katherine and former husband Chris, Katherine's daughter Samantha. Great grandchildren Faith, Lilian, Mark III, John, Paul, Anna, Sara, Liberti, Journee, Karmah, Storee, Michael and Violet. There are two other surviving nephews Joseph and Robert.
Mary Lou was the champion of her children and was always ready to defend them! She passed on her love for Boxer dogs and dogs in general. She continued to work at her odd jobs while her children were growing up for extra money, was a good accountant for her husband Bob's businesses and then worked with a tailor in Las Vegas into her 80's. Mary Lou was a talented seamstress. She could come up with great costumes when needed. Her parties were elegant and fun where you just might find a whiskey sour fountain and she loved to set a good table with china, silver and crystal. She and Bob also loved to travel and play bridge with their friends. Mary Lou was an avid church goer and was head of the linen team at her church into her 80's. One of her mottos was "You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar".
There will be a funeral mass at St. John Neumann Church in Las Vegas. Mary Lou will be interred with her husband Bob in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.
