Ok Sun "Sunny"
Kang
Oct 15, 1946 — Jun 22, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ok Sun Kang on June 22nd, 2026, after a prolonged decline.
Born in 1946 as the eldest daughter of six children in Pusan, South Korea to the late Yoo Heung-Tae (eldest of five) and Kim Eun-Joo, she adopted the name ‘Sunny’ upon her arrival in NYC in 1974. Sunny supported her growing family of five by working two jobs and nights. Later, she ran several businesses including a retail store in the Bronx, a fruit and vegetable establishment on Allerton Ave, and several nail salons in lower Manhattan, especially in the Zeckendorf Towers, Union Square. After 9/11/2001, she relocated to the West Coast eventually choosing sunny Las Vegas where she had the energy to start up a landscaping business in her 60's.
Sunny will be remembered for her quick wit, her desire for fresh and organic foods, and her passion in the arts and crafts. Her loving husband, Young Si Kang, and her grandchildren suggest in lieu of flowers making a donation in her name to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) or to a local food bank.
