A Life well-lived is so beautiful and rare
That everyone within his glow is Blessed because hes there.
And though the light goes out on earth,
in Heaven he shines still,
And the beauty he revealed to us lives on and always will.
Patrick Selivan Hunter was born on June 1, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois to Mary Elizabeth Hunter of Jackson, Tennessee. James A. Brooks married Patricks mother, Mary Elizabeth, when he was young and raised him as his own. Patrick was an only child. Mary Elizabeth and James A. Brooks proceeded Patrick in death
Patrick was educated in the Chicago, Illinois Public Schools. He graduated from DuSable High School, a top trades school. He was a carpenter-contractor and worked in construction. He was a political activist all his life. He was actively involved in Chicago politics and his community. He also worked with Martin Luther Kings Civil Rights movement in Chicago and nationally. He traveled to the Deep South to register Afro-American voters. He participated in Martin Luther Kings March on Washington.
"Once a Marine Always A Marine." Patrick Selivan was drafted at the age of 19 and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Viet Nam War. He is a Purple Heart recipient. He was also awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Viet Nam Service Medal with Star; and the Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal with Device. He was Honorably Discharged from service in 1972 and went back to Chicago. He worked for Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) as a Bus Driver and Bus Driver Supervisor. . He married and had one son, Patrick Eugene Hunter. He continued to be an activist involved in Chicago politics and his community.
Patrick met the love of life, Tiah, and they married November 27, 1982. They lived in Chicago, and Matteson, IL. In 1989, Patrick was hired by Fred Harvey Transportation Company, Grand Canyon, AZ, as a Tour Bus Driver. He and his wife, Tiah, moved to Grand Canyon, Arizona. He also worked as Dispatch Supervisor and Transportation Manager. He was the first Arizona Tour Bus Driver to take the new Arizona Commercial Drivers License (CDL) course and pass. Patrick then trained other Fred Harvey Bus Drivers on how to take the new CDL test.
Patrick drove the Grand Canyon high school children to their athletic away games throughout the States of Arizona and Utah. The parents and children gave him an award and a Stetson "Cowboy" Hat "In Appreciation for his time and dedication to Grand Canyon High School Athletics. He made so many wonderful friends because of his "light." Their children and grandchildren called him "Uncle Pat" and they visited him often in Las Vegas.
In 1996, Patrick and his wife, Tiah, moved to Las Vegas, NV. Patrick worked for Grayline Tours, Las Vegas, NV, as a Tour Bus Driver and Bus Dispatcher. Later he worked for The Mirage and Wynn Resorts, Las Vegas, NV, as a Bus Driver and Dispatch Supervisor before retiring.
He is survived by his adored wife, Tiah; his son, Patrick Eugene Hunter (Denise); Grandson Nudae Hunter; their niece, Angela Lee (Lance); God-daughter Tamiko Taylor (Leo); Cousins Alvin Hunter (Lois) and Esther Hunter-Denson; Grandniece Kristen Marcus(Daverick) and Grandnephew Damian Lee; Great Grandnephews Joshia, Gideon, Cyrus and Saul Marcus. In addition, an extended family: Vicky Stuckey-Hicks (Gary) and her children Raymund (Pauline) Kendall, Kelly Kendell and Michelle Kendell; Vicky Stuckey-Hicks grandchildren Haiden, Helaina, Avrum, and Maya. His "special" Bro, George Johnson (Orelia); plus a host of friends including: Margaret and Mike Solis; Vicky Snyder, Marge Romig; Helen Stapler; Gilberto Del Reo (Griselda) and neighbors: Frank Santa Cruz (Christina).
