Pierre Michel
Lienard
Nov 20, 1968 — Aug 1, 2023
Pierre Lienard, 54, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, August 1st, 2023, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born on November 20th, 1968, to Thrse Adant and Jean-Claude Lienard in Etterbeek, Belgium. From a young age, Pierre pursued hobbies such as mastering the trumpet and reading extensively. Later on, he discovered his appreciation for traveling across the world. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Bossuyt, his children, Nora and Mona Lienard, his brothers, Philippe, Eric, and Marc Lienard, and his parents. He spent his life devoted to his family, working hard to provide for them while maintaining a high standard for educating and raising his children. He introduced Nora and Mona to music at early ages, oversaw their education, and helped them become as successful as possible. Having a refined, worldly eye, he always supported his wife with her artistic career. Pierre's childhood dream of being a veterinarian quickly vanished as he discovered his interests in politics, history, geography, and human societies, leading him to study journalism at L'Universit Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). Passionate about social and cognitive sciences, he rapidly obtained his Ph.D. in Anthropology. He studied the Turkana community in Kenya for many years, then later moved to the U.S. with his family and completed his postdoctoral research in the lab of his friend and mentor, Pascal Boyer, at Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri. Pierre began to publish his work and earned a position as a professor of Anthropology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), spreading his knowledge and love of anthropology to all of his students. Pierre enjoyed reading, hiking, listening to music, cooking, gardening, and spending quality time with his wife and daughters. As a senior professor, he devoted himself to every task he accomplished and fulfilled it to the greatest extent he could. He had a huge heart and was extremely strong, fighting for his family, friends, and students in the most difficult of situations, relenting for neither physical nor emotional pain. The life lesson he left behind was to be curious and eager to learn about everything. Pierre left a lasting impact on all the people around him. He will always remain in our hearts and memories.
