Obituary

Rodolfo Burciaga, age 93, passed away peacefully at home on February 28, 2024. Rodolfo (Rudy) is survived by his wife Phyllis of 68 years, daughter Kathy, son Daniel and his wife Silvana, son Steven and his wife Brenda, son David and his wife Cleo and daughter Martha and her husband Jack, and his sisters Consuelo and Martha and nephew, Billy. Rudy was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Linda. He has 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Rudy was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. He was of Mexican descent. Rudy came from a family of 8 and his mother was nominated on her citizenship/naturalization by President Eisenhower in a special White House ceremony. He was enlisted into the Army in 1947 (11 days after he turned 17 years old) in Fort Bliss, Texas and served until 1949. Highest grade held was as a Corporal. He moved to Chicago, Illinois where he married Phyllis Smith. Subsequently, he moved his family to West Hills, California. In California he worked for Jessup's, Van de Kamps, Baskin Robbin's, Universal Studios and LAX as an auto/truck mechanic. Thereafter, he opened his own auto garage in Chatsworth, California. Upon retirement, he moved with Phyllis to Las Vegas, Nevada where he loved playing Craps, slots, putting bets on football games, eating great Chinese food and traveling. He was kind, soft spoken and a hard worker. The family would like to say a special 'thank you' to Kathy (his daughter) for taking care of him while he was on hospice. Also, we would like to thank the hospice nurses/doctors and Mr. Hendrix at Southwest Medical/OptumCare. Service will be held at a later date in California. We love you Dad. Rest in peace and someday we will meet again.
