Obituary

Roslyn Sue Foessett passed peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025, at the age of 81, in the presence of her immediate family. Sue or Susie, as she liked to be called, resided in Las Vegas NV since 2010. Susie was born April 16, 1944, at Robins Field (now Robins AFB) in Georgia. She was the first of six children of Irving I. Flor and Sylvia Factor Flor. A military "brat", she proudly boasted that for most of her life she always had a military ID card. She married her husband Bob in 1966, and together his military career took their family all over the U.S., Europe, finishing their last assignment in Hawai'i in 1999. Wanting to be a teacher since she was a little girl, Sue received her BS in Education from West Chester State College PA (now West Chester University) in 1966 and pursued her first teaching position in Coatesville, PA. She also taught elementary school for three years at the former Bergstrom AFB, TX. With frequent moves, it was challenging to establish permanency in a school system, but she always substituted in the classroom whenever she could. After several military moves, she finally was able to acquire her MS in Education at Auburn University in 1995 when she and Bob were assigned to Alabama. She always said her crowning achievement, though, was being able to teach ten wonderful years in the Virginia Beach City Public School system from 2000 to 2010, receiving numerous awards and commendations for her efforts with her young students. She kept in contact with some of them who now had families of their own. When Bob and Sue moved to Las Vegas, they adopted retired racing greyhounds. Daisy, Sue's "dog of a lifetime", stayed with her until 2022, but she was happy to see Rigby (named for Sue's favorite Beatles song Eleanor Rigby) when she was in rehab in April of this year. She had wanted to see her favorite band, ELO, one more time but lacked the energy to attend this year. She shared 59 years of marriage with her husband Bob of Las Vegas. Sue is also survived by her son Gary and his wife Leslie, daughter Eryn, and one grandchild, Max Hollenshead-Foessett, all of Austin, TX. Additionally, she is survived by one brother and three sisters. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Miles Foessett, who passed in 1995, as well as a brother, Jerome Flor, who passed in 2015. At her request, there will be no memorial service. She has requested her remains be returned to her college campus where she and Bob first met 60 years ago. Sue requested that any donations in her name be gifted to the National Greyhound Association in Abilene, KS. Sue's immediate family would like to express their sincerest thanks to her sister, Jackie Flor, who quickly came and spent precious time with Sue during her final days, as well as the emotional support of her sisters-in-law, Linda Gill and Donna Lee Troupe, both of PA. Finally, a special thanks to the Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas for their superb and caring treatment of Sue in her final days. A bright, warm, witty woman, Sue will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
