Aug 25, 1935 — Apr 25, 2024
Long time Reno resident, Ross Charles Carr Sr., affectionately known as Poppop, passed away in Las Vegas on April 25th at the age of 88. His family was able to make it to Vegas just in time for his grand finale and went on to win big in his honor. Ross was not a man of many means, yet he was truly wealthy. His wealth lay in the richness of his life experiences, boundless curiosity, vivid imagination, unwavering confidence, and most importantly, in the deep love he held for his family. He was a man who embraced life to the fullest, savoring every moment with immense joy. Born and raised in New York, Ross achieved numerous accolades throughout his life. A skilled golfer who proudly represented Florida State, he remained devoted to the sport throughout his lifetime. Serving his country with honor in the Air Force, he exemplified a spirit of dedication. Ross's competitive spirit shone through as he secured a Gold medal in pickleball at the Reno Senior Olympics, showcasing his enduring determination. While Ross's life was filled with captivating stories, his true purpose and joy came when he welcomed the role of Poppop. Whether he was imparting his knowledge of golf and chess to his grandchildren, introducing them to the world of the stock market, or creating magical moments with impromptu celebrations, he brought enchantment and wonder into their lives. His vibrant personality and unique charm made the world a more magical place, and his absence leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him. Ross is survived by his son, Ross Charles Carr Jr., and wife Stella, daughters Kathy and Irene Rogerson, his cherished grandchildren Laura, David, Katie, Nathan, and Emily and his best friend, Fred. He now joins his beloved late wife, Beverly, son Frank, and daughter Gia, whom he missed dearly. In honoring his memory, the family will hold a private ceremony to bid Ross farewell, and they invite those touched by his joy to place a bet of $500 on black in his honor, symbolizing the unpredictable and exciting journey of life that Ross embraced with open arms.
