Sandra Grubbs Hawk

August 6, 1946 – July 30, 2026

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former pain are passed away.” — Revelation 21:4

Sandra Grubbs Hawk, beloved wife, mother, and “Mimi,” went home to be with the Lord on July 30, 2026, at the age of 79, in Las Vegas, NV, surrounded by the love of her family. She is now free, and we choose to celebrate her beautiful life and that freedom rather than mourn it.

Sandra was born August 6, 1946, in Florence, AL, to Alfred E. Grubbs and Rachel White Grubbs. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Middle Tennessee State University, where she met Jerry H. Hawk, the two were college sweethearts long before they built a life together. She began her career as a social worker, drawn to helping others, and went on to spend the majority of her working years serving as an administrative assistant for religious organizations close to her heart, including Westport Road Church of Christ, Harding School of Theology, and Johns Creek Baptist Church.

On June 1, 1968, in Athens, AL, Sandra married Jerry, and the two spent the next 58 years building a life full of love, faith, and laughter together.

Sandra was, in every sense, a true southern lady, gracious, warm, and quick to make anyone feel like family. She took great pride in good manners and always carried herself with a polished, put-together grace. Her Christian faith was the center of her life, and it showed in the open-hearted way she welcomed everyone who crossed her path. She smocked, and was especially proud of the matching outfits she and her mother, Rachel, made for her children to wear to Sunday church.

She adored her dogs, found deep joy in raising her children, and lit up completely whenever her grandson Miles was around, there was nothing she loved more than being his “Mimi.” Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she loved making her children's birthdays extra special, often filling the day with homemade chocolates, cakes, and decorations she made herself. She also taught both of her children how to drive a manual 5-speed, a skill she was very proud of. All the way through high school, she packed her children's lunches, often tucking in notes of encouragement or simply to share her love for them. Her favorite hymn, “I'll Fly Away,” captured the hope she carried in her heart, and it is fitting that she now soars free.

Sandra is survived by her husband, Jerry H. Hawk, of Las Vegas, NV; her daughter, Amy H. Lee, and son-in-law Jong M. Lee, of Las Vegas, NV; her son, Wm. Davis Hawk, and daughter-in-law Noreen Souza-Bailey, of Middle Village, NY; her grandson, Miles P. Hawk; and her brother, A. Don Grubbs, of Huntsville, AL.

A Memorial Service celebrating Sandra's life will be held on August 21, 2026, at 6:00 pm at North Las Vegas Baptist Church, 3910 W Washburn Rd, North Las Vegas, NV 89031.

 In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Sandra's memory to The Parkinson's Foundation or the Heart Failure Research Foundation.
