Selma Helen Patrick April 18, 1948 - December 26, 2025 Born in Gloucester, MA Selma Helen Patrick lost her courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on December 26. She was the youngest of three children born to Lauri David Natti and Elsie H. Natti (Kleimola). Selma attended Lanes School, Central Grammar School, and graduated from Gloucester High School in 1966. She loved her childhood growing up in Lanesville. In the summer of 1965, Selma met Whittier (Whit) Cushing Patrick in Lanesville. When she first met him, she was not really impressed with him. After a couple of weeks, though, they were inseparable. Whit enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, and five days after graduating from Coast Guard boot camp, Whit and Selma were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lanesville, MA, on September 28, 1966. They began their life together in Gloucester, MA, where Whit was stationed on the General Greene. Their first son, Eric Carson Patrick, was born at Addison Gilbert Hospital in March of 1967. During their married life, they moved to several different Coast Guard units throughout the United States. After Gloucester, they lived in North Chicago, IL, and then Portland, ME, where their son Joshua Adam Patrick was born in March of 1970. They then moved to Otis Air Force Base on Cape Cod, MA, before traveling across the country to Astoria, OR, where their daughter Jessica Lynn Patrick was born in December of 1973. From there, they traveled back across the country to Waterloo, NY, followed by Miami, FL. Their next move brought them to Westhampton Beach, NY, where their youngest daughter, Cassandra Selma Maroy Patrick (Cummings), was born in February of 1984. Newport, OR, was the next stop on their Coast Guard journey. Whit retired from the Coast Guard in 1988 and joined Central Lincoln PUD. They remained in Newport for a total of 28 years. With every move, Selma took care of her family, worked a handful of part-time jobs over the years, and embraced each new adventure with enthusiasm. She made many friends along the way and was proud to have friendships throughout the United States. In 2013, Selma and Whit sold their home in Newport, OR, and moved into an RV full time. They traveled throughout the country for nearly a decade visiting their four children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many family members and friends they had met throughout their lives. In 2022 they purchased a home in Las Vegas, NV. Her best friend was her husband, Whit. They cherished their time together traveling and kayaking. Selma loved caring for her grandchildren and often offered her help whenever it was needed. She loved animals throughout her life and had several dogs and cats. Her cats, Selena and G.G. miss her dearly. She will be deeply missed as a wife, best friend, mom, Mummü, friend, sister, aunt, and so much more. She lived her life with passion, whether it was spending time with family, setting off on a new adventure, enjoying travel, or getting down on the ground to play with her grandchildren with the spirit of a kid. Her life was filled with joy and happiness, and her smile was cherished by many. Selma was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, David. She is survived by her husband, Whit; her four children, Eric (Wendy), Josh (Jami), Jessica, and Cassandra (Dominic); and her nine grandchildren, Alyssa Patrick, Caleb Patrick (Kelsey), Alexandria Voelker (Bo), Jalyn Hill, Brian Patrick, Malik Hill, Taylor Patrick, Ariana Cummings, and Miles Cummings. She is also survived by her three great-grandchildren, Henry Voelker, Lincoln Voelker, and Hendrix Hill. She is further survived by her sister, Nancy McKay, and her nephews, Ted and Scott. Remember her with happiness. A celebration of her life is being planned in Las Vegas in 2026. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation. www.t2t.org
