Obituary

Shirley Mae Renteria (Shirlee), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was 79 years old.

Shirlee was born on October 9, 1944, in McIntyre, Georgia, born to her loving parents, mother Ida Mae Ayers, father Robert Hill and stepfather Nathaniel Ayers, all of whom preceded her in death. She spent her formative years in McIntyre before pursuing her education at El Camino College in Los Angeles, California.

In 1996, Shirlee began her dedicated service with the City of Las Vegas Parks & Recreation Department as a Recreation Leader II, where she brought joy and laughter to countless individuals until her retirement in 2003. A vibrant soul with a fondness for Betty Boop, Shirlee was cherished by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and unwavering love.

Shirlee is survived by her daughter, Gloria Major; son, Marc Lewis; grandsons, Jeremy Sullivan, Nathaniel Phillipps, Jordan Lewis, Josef Major, Bradley Lewis; granddaughter, Ty'Ava Phillipps; great-granddaughter, Aubrey Sullivan; sisters, Diana Gotel, Sarah Proctor-Hamilton; brothers-in-law, Darryl Hamilton, Vance Roque; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She is preceded in death by her son, James Phillipps (Jimmy), and brother, Robert Stanley.

Shirlee will be dearly missed by her sisters from another mother, Michele Graydon-Rivera and Annette Dayoub, as well as numerous dear friends and loved ones whose lives she touched with her radiant spirit.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Sunrise Mountain Ministries. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered love and support during this difficult time.
