Murata
Oct 3, 1936 — Apr 17, 2024
Tadashi Murata, affectionately known as Tad, passed away peacefully at his home in Las Vegas, NV surrounded by family on April 17, 2024 at the age of 87.
Born October 3, 1936 in Concord, CA, to Tanigoro and Setsu Murata, Tadashi grew up alongside his (now predeceased) siblings Matsukiyo, Hitoshi, Atsuko, Shiyeko, Miyeko, and Yumiko. During the Second World War, his family was placed in a Japanese relocation center at Gila River Internment Camp, AZ.
Tadashi attended Patterson H.S. and eventually worked for his brother in farming and was a proud member of the Future Farmers of America.
Tadashi proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1956 to 1961, and became an aviation instrument technologist. He also served on the aircraft carrier, USS Hancock. He was honorably discharged in 1961.
Tadashi later moved to Las Vegas, NV and worked for Reynolds Electrical & Engineering, IBM, and EG&G.
While with IBM, he was sent to Kwajalein Atoll, a military base in the Marshall Islands, where he learned to scuba dive.
He was later hired by EG&G and worked at the Nevada Test Site for several years. He received many commendations including the Award of Excellence for Significant Contribution to the Nuclear Weapons Program.
Tad met the love of his life, Helen, in 1975 and they married in 1979. They celebrated their 45th Wedding Anniversary on March 3rd.
He was also an avid runner and was a part of the Las Vegas Track Club for many years. Tadashi leaves behind his beloved wife, Helen, and their three children Andrew, Kristi, and Jamie. He was also a loving and proud Granddad to Isaac, Elliott, Wyatt, Wayne, and Marshall.
Tad was a proud American who loved God and loved people. He never lost his sense of humor or joy of living. He was a wonderful husband and the best dad and granddad. He was and is unforgettable.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Acacia Hospice in Yuma, AZ, and Comfort Home Health & Hospice in Las Vegas, NV, for their unwavering support, care, and compassion during Tadashi's final days.
Tadashi will be laid to rest with military honors at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery on June 28th. A private family memorial will be held to celebrate his remarkable life and the countless memories he created.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Tadashi's honor.
