Obituary

Thomas W. Luscher, age 89, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of family, dedication, and quiet strength. Born on October 25, 1936, in Cleveland, Ohio, Tom lived a life defined by purpose, curiosity, and unwavering devotion. Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army, carrying that same sense of duty and discipline into every chapter of his life. Following his service, he pursued his passion for science and innovation, earning a degree in Chemistry from Cleveland State University, with an emphasis in metallurgical and chemical engineering. His professional journey was marked by ingenuity, perseverance, and excellence, including a distinguished career with General Electric in the lighting division, where he contributed to advancements in manufacturing and engineering and held patents in lighting technology. Never one to stand still, Tom later brought his talents to Silicon Valley, where he continued his work in the lighting industry as a purchasing manager before launching his own business in lighting technology. His lifelong passion for engineering, operations, and manufacturing reflected both his sharp intellect and tireless work ethic. At the heart of Tom's life was his devotion to family and faith. A man of Roman Catholic belief, he shared a remarkable 60-year marriage with his beloved wife, Bertie-his soulmate and partner in all things-until her passing in 2019. Their love was a guiding light that continues to shine through the generations they built together. Tom found joy in life's simple and meaningful moments. Whether refereeing basketball and softball games, mentoring others, or sharing his knowledge through teaching, he remained deeply engaged in his community. He played basketball, was an avid bowler, a spirited table tennis player, and even spent time as a baseball pitcher-always embracing friendly competition with enthusiasm. Known for his quick wit and love of a good joke, Tom had a special gift for bringing laughter to any room. He is survived by his six children-Laura, Linda, Lisa, Larry, Lenny, and Lee-his fifteen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his values of faith, family, and perseverance. He was preceded in death by his sister, Rita, and his brother, Joseph, and is survived by their children: Rita's son, Michael, and Joseph's sons, Bradley, Jeffrey, and Robert. Thomas will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and a man of faith-a steady presence whose life was rich with purpose. His legacy lives on not only in what he built and accomplished, but in the countless lives he touched. May he rest with his wife in eternal love and peace.
