Thorald William Schleppegrell (Terry), passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on January 14, 2026. His passing marked a gentle close to a rich, full life lived with dedication and quiet pride.
Terry was born on April 30, 1953, in Princeton, Minnesota, to Beverly Joanne (Carlson) Schleppegrell and John Daniel Schleppegrell. He attended Forest Lake High School in Minnesota with the Class of 1971.
As a young man, Terry served as a medic in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged on October 25, 1973, at the age of 20, and received the National Defense Service Medal for his service.
Terry was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Schleppegrell (2025).
Terry is survived by his son, Jackson Schleppegrell, who was born on April 12, 1989, in Anchorage, Alaska, and lives South Korea, and by his sisters Linda Schleppegrell [Fairbanks, AK], Karen Schleppegrell Pellouchoud (Dan) [Boulder City, NV], and Tammy Schleppegrell [Las Vegas, NV].
Terry is also survived by his nephew Dane Beebe (Henderson, NV), and his nieces Megan Pellouchoud (South Korea), Paige Pellouchoud (Tempe, AZ), and Amy Pellouchoud (Toluca Lake, CA). Additionally, his great-niece Hannah Beebe (Henderson, NV) is carrying the family traditions two more generations into the future.
Terry worked his entire career in the grocery business, where he was known for his knowledge of store operations and his willingness to help wherever needed. He was a longtime member of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), Local No. 1469 in Anchorage, Alaska, and Local No. 711 in Boulder City, Nevada.
Over the years, he worked at Carrs/Safeway in Anchorage and later at VONS/Safeway in Boulder City, Nevada. Whether he was unloading trucks, stocking shelves, or checking out customers, Terry took pride in doing all jobs efficiently and effectively.
Outside of work, Terry had a sharp and analytical mind, which found a natural home in the game of bridge. An accomplished player, he earned a Life Master Certificate from the American Contract Bridge League in 1978. His love for the game endured throughout his life, and he most recently competed in a bridge tournament in San Francisco in December 2025.
Terry was also a devoted sports fan who closely followed basketball and football. He enjoyed the strategy of the games and the thrill of placing well-considered bets, always appreciating the numbers and probabilities behind the action.
Terry will be remembered for his intelligence, steady work ethic, competitive spirit, and understated sense of humor. He lived thoughtfully, valued skill and strategy, and leaves behind many memories shared with those who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
Terry's Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm on Friday May 1, 2026, in the Chapel at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City.
