Obituary

Vancer (Van) Junior Dunbar, age 73 years, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 20, 2024, in the early morning hours from cardiac arrest. Van was born in Detroit, MI. His parents were Money Dunbar and Gladys Soward, both long deceased and had two brothers, also now deceased, Samuel and Dempsey. Van is survived by his wife, Suzanne McGoldrick, and her three grown children, Katie Sonntag (Alex Sonntag), and their three sons, Theo, Niko, and Izzy; Robin Duke (Phillip Duke) and their three sons, Morgan, Max, and Robert, and her son, Dennis Gray (Su Lin Gray) and their four children, Collin, Loyal, Cassidy, and Kenzie. Van also is survived by his two sons Derek Dunbar and Ryan Dunbar from his previous marriage to Paulette Dunbar. Both Derek and Ryan are living with their respective families in Haslett, MI. Van, a veteran of the United States Air Force, served in Vietnam. While Van was a quiet and private person who kept to himself, he was much loved and devoted to his step-daughter Katie and his father-in-law, Robert Bartoli (also recently deceased). Van had an innate ability to focus and was an ardent builder of remote-controlled airplanes, painting, and gardening.
