Obituary

"For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away". James 4:14b KJV On June 9, 2023, Vernetta Jones Richardson Blumenkrantz McKee, lovingly called "Tuit" by family members, was called from labor to rest. She was born on August 5, 1932, to Thomas J. and Lydia Jones in Natchitoches, Louisiana and moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1938. At the age of 13, she confessed a hope in the Lord Jesus Christ, and was baptized. Upon moving to Covert, Michigan from Chicago, Illinois in 1970, she united with the Gospel Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful member for 44 years. She served selflessly in Sunday School, Missions, the church office, and on the Women's Day Committee. In 2020, she moved to Las Vegas where she became a founding member and the chief encourager of her son-in-love's and daughter's church, Lighthouse Ministries. Her heart of compassion for those who were sick and terminally ill led her to volunteer for Hospice. In 2020, she was honored for her service with a Certificate of Appreciation and a brick with her name in their special garden. She also traveled many miles and spent countless hours assisting family members with health crises. Vernetta is survived by her husband of 42 years, George W. McKee, four children - Joe (Lynette) Richardson, Anita R. Richardson Brown Richardson, Lydia (Timothy) Blumenkrantz Clarke, Leesa (John) Blumenkrantz Danley; eight siblings - Harrel Jones, Bernice Moses Jones, Hammette Jones, Betty Patterson, Ernestine Jackson, Arsenia (Alvin) Williams, Slettie (Rita) Jones, Joan C. (Percy) Tobar; twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and many loving nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her father and mother; brother - Thomas (Maeola) Jones, Jr.; sister - Ruby (Ray) Black; two sons - Gregory and Jeffery Richardson; one son-in-love - Leroy Richardson; one great grandson - Tacarhri Richardson; two adopted sisters - Ruth Nicholson and Jessie Puente; and two former spouses - Herman Blumenkrantz and Joe Richardson, Sr. Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023 in Covert, Michigan, and she will be buried in the Covert Cemetery. She loved and was loved in return. Second to Jesus, her greatest love was her huge and loving family. "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life." John 6:47 KJV
