Obituary

Vincent Emmanuel Garrett, Jr. died on November 30, 2025 in his apartment in Las Vegas, NV and was 65 years old. He was born on March 21, 1960 to Vincent Emmanuel Garrett, Sr. and Shirley Ann (Smith) Garrett at French Hospital in New York City. Vincent's grandparents preceded him in death and were, Hattie and George Smith (Hattie remarried Eugene Beasley) and Mary Ellen Garrett. After his parents' divorce, Vincent grew up in the Elliott Chelsea Housing development of New York City, NY with his mother Shirley, older sister Linda Marie Garrett (Johnson), and countless dogs and cats that the family adopted over the years. Vincent attended St. Columba elementary school (and was an altar boy), Power Memorial Academy high school (and was involved in the library club, intramurals: basketball, softball and bowling); and went on to attend John Jay College studying criminal justice. Vincent has lived in Minnesota, working at Project Remand. And eventually moved to Las Vegas, NV where he worked in the Casinos, with his last job in Vegas driving for a tour bus company. Vincent always talked about how much he loved driving for the tour bus company. It was working for the tour bus company that he found out he had atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, and that his heart was functioning at only 30%. This diagnosis ended Vincent's work career and placed him permanently on disability. His heart was tested once again in 2024 when he had a stroke, leaving it even weaker than before. The family would like to thank the staff of South Cove Apartments for the care and support they provided to Vincent, especially on his last day.
Vincent never had children of his own, but had three stepdaughters through his ex-wife Liz (Iris, Ivy and Ingrid).

Vincent had a loving relationship with his partner of 11 years Jeanne Rose (their furbaby Badger) that ended with her death in 2013.

Vincent has six additional siblings through his father Vincent Garrett, Sr.: Carolyn Marie Garrett-Piggott, Katina Marie Garrett (deceased), Nigille Cherisse Demps-Stewart, Jonathan Vincent Demps, Kiesha Arrington, and Christian Vincent Garrett (and his nieces and nephews through his siblings). They all loved Vincent very much. Vincent has two cousins through his uncle Mark Smith, Sr. (deceased): Mark Smith, Jr. and Justin Smith who loved him. And Vincent has an aunt Gloria Civers who loves him too. But most of all, Vincent is loved and remembered fondly by his big sister Linda Marie Garrett-Johnson, her children Sean (Azahira), Kimberley (Arnulfo) and ten grand nieces and nephews. Linda's heart is especially sorrowful because she will miss the phone calls, conversations, and ordering food from Walmart for Vincent. They shared several favorite foods items like skinny popcorn, lays potato chips, green olives, and southern comfort eggnog. And Linda will really miss hearing Vincent say, when she had selected the correct food item for his Walmart order, "That's the one!"
