Obituary

William 'Bill' Mark Weisenmiller, 72, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at Nathan Adelson Hospice Center in Las Vegas, NV. Bill was born on September 12, 1951, in Cumberland, MD. He was the son of Charles Edward Weisenmiller and Georgia Juanita Weisenmiller. He was a 1969 graduate of Bishop Walsh High School, where he became an all-city football player, as well as a baseball player. Bill's talent as a catcher led to an invitation to try out for the Cincinnati Reds. He went on to play basketball and study mental health while attending Allegany Community College between 1973 and 1975. During this time, Bill's care for and mentorship of kids flourished as a football and baseball coach at Bishop Walsh High School, further forging the path of continued coaching throughout his life. Bill moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1975, where he worked as a youth counselor in an outpatient program. He then developed and directed a residential treatment center for adolescent boys. Working in the mental health field deepened his compassion for the plight of others. He went on to work as the assistant superintendent responsible for maintenance and irrigation at the Tropicana Golf Course. During these 11 years, he developed his love for golf and his passion for cultivating the grounds for others to do the same. In 1991, he began his 22 year career at the City of Las Vegas in the Parks Department. Bill's colleagues spoke of him as an exceptional Parks Maintenance Supervisor who had a unique ability to establish rapport with everyone, allowing him to work across divisional lines to develop an unprecedented sports field maintenance program. Through Bill's vision, the City of Las Vegas became nationally known for its 117 sports field inventory and more importantly, the world class conditions of their playing surfaces. Bill's passion and excellence are seen today, as Las Vegas continues to host international soccer tournaments with over 30 countries, all stemming from the foundation Bill left - a legacy of compassion intermixed with perfection. Bill's love of sports and children and his dedication to hard work and family drove his dreams, passions, and daily life. Bill's deep care for the world he lived in, the ones he loved, and anyone in need led him to always be in search of small and large ways he could serve and aid others. Bill had a generous heart and immense strength, always giving of himself. Bill's words of wisdom, humor, and charm enheartened and touched those around him, and those who had the privilege of being close to him were held by his steady calm and unconditional love. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Juanita Weisenmiller, his brother, Jeffrey Weisenmiller, and his sister, Nancy Weisenmiller. Bill is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Weisenmiller; his sons, Mark and Danny Weisenmiller and his daughter, Beth Weisenmiller; his daughter-in-law, Kendal Weisenmiller; his grandchildren, Grady and Blakely Weisenmiller; his cherished brothers, Chuck, Mike, Ernie, John, Chris, and Andy Weisenmiller; his dear sister, Joan 'Sis' Ruppenkamp; and their beloved families. His memorial service will be held on, Friday, May 24th at 11am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 5830 Mesa Park Dr, Las Vegas, NV with a reception to follow at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4340 W Warm Springs Road, Las Vegas, NV. Another memorial service will be held in Bill's hometown, Cumberland, MD, in the near future. Bill's wishes are, in lieu of flowers, to instead sponsor a kid or youth in a sport. Bill's love and passion for playing and coaching sports and his deep commitment and dedication to being a part of a team shaped him and taught him about life; he wants all kids who haven't necessarily had this opportunity to find the camaraderie, joy, and service he experienced through sports.
