Willie Columbus Wilson, lovingly known as 'Sweetcheeks,' passed away on October 5, 2023, at the age of 73 in Henderson, Nevada. He was born on September 4, 1950, in Monroe, Louisiana, to his parents, Geraldine Stillers and Willie E. Wilson. Willie was surrounded by family throughout his life, his siblings: Edith Wilson, Deborah Cannon, and Kathy Gaines. Later in life he had the joy of finding additional siblings, David Wilson, and Tommie (Wilson) Turner. He attended Lafayette High School. Willie's dedication to service was evident in his career at the Fresno Veterans Hospital, where he worked tirelessly until his retirement. He provided care and support to countless veterans throughout his tenure. On November 27, 2013, Willie married the love of his life, Barbara N. Wilson, in Fresno, California. Willie was a passionate fisherman and had a great love for music. Willie was predeceased by his mother, Geraldine Stillers, in November 1999, his sisters Edith Wilson in February 1998, Deborah Cannon in November 2017, and Kathy Gaines in January 2015. Tragically, his son, Leland D. Wilson, passed in March 2019. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara N. Wilson of Henderson, NV, his stepson John M. Wells, his brother David Wilson of Texarkana, TX, and his sister Tommie (Wilson) Turner of Dallas Fort Worth, TX. Willie leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, friends, cousins, and extended family members who will forever cherish his memory. A memorial service will be held at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery on November 30, 2023, at 1:20 PM, where Willie will find his final resting place, surrounded by the honor and respect befitting his service to his country.
