It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Philip Joseph Petitt, who left us on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at the age of 63. Philip peacefully departed in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he had been a resident for the past 20 years.
Philip was born on September 7, 1960, in Los Angeles County, California, to Alfred and Earnestine Petitt. In his early years, Philip, also known as Phil, shared his childhood with his older brother Steve and younger sister Pam.
Besides Las Vegas, Phil grew up and lived in La Mirada, California, Beaverton, Oregon, Scotch Plains, New Jersey, San Jose, California, and Federal Way, Washington. While living in Beaverton, Oregon as a pre-teen, Phil's passion for sports shone through as he led his "Bad News Bears" baseball team to a remarkable 10-1 season.
Phil is a graduate of Leland High School in San Jose, California. He pursued higher education at San Jose State University in California before embarking on a fulfilling career. He found joy and fulfillment as a self-employed professional, specializing in the full house installation of blinds, drapes, and shutters throughout Las Vegas for over two decades.
Beyond his work, Phil was a lover of all sports, enjoying both playing and watching. His affinity for animals, particularly dogs, was evident, as he chose to provide a "forever" home for his last two canine companions, both rescues.
Phil is survived by his loving mother, Earnestine Petitt, residing in Henderson, Nevada. He leaves behind cherished memories for his brother, Steve Petitt, and Steve's wife Mary Anne of Franklin Park, New Jersey, as well as his sister Pam Ribardo and her husband Ken of Rocklin, California. Phil is also fondly remembered by his nephew Michael of California, and niece Katerina and nephew Alexander of New Jersey. He is predeceased by his father, Alfred Petitt, who passed away in 2013.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Philip Joseph Petitt will take place on Tuesday, January 30th, 2024, at Palm Boulder Highway Cemetery, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV. The memorial will begin at 2 pm, with a reception for friends and family to meet, greet, and share memories of Phil. At 3 pm, a Catholic priest will offer a final blessing before interment, and Phil's urn will be placed into his final resting place. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.
The family expresses gratitude to all friends who enriched Phil's life and to those whose lives were touched by his warmth and kindness. Phil's memory will be cherished through the echoes of happy times, laughter, and bright, sunny days.
"I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one, I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done..."
